Hi @Suyash15

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing the error message—it’s understandably frustrating when your HP Pavilion g4 fails to start due to boot configuration issues. The message you’re seeing typically means the Boot Configuration Data (BCD) is missing or corrupted, often triggered by a failed update, power loss, or disk error.

Let’s walk through a focused recovery path to restore Windows startup:

Step-by-step actions to repair BCD error on HP Pavilion g4

1. Create a Windows 10 recovery USB

If you don’t already have one:

  • On another working PC, visit:
    Windows 10 Media Creation Tool
  • Download and run the tool
  • Choose “Create installation media” and follow prompts to create a bootable USB

2. Boot from the recovery USB

  • Insert the USB into your Pavilion g4
  • Power on and press Esc, then F9 to open Boot Menu
  • Select the USB drive and press Enter

3. Access Startup Repair

  • On the Windows Setup screen, click Next
  • Click Repair your computer (bottom left)
  • Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair
  • Select your Windows installation and let the tool run

4. Rebuild BCD manually (if Startup Repair fails)

Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command Prompt

In the Command Prompt window, type:

  • bootrec /fixmbr
  • bootrec /fixboot
  • bootrec /scanos
  • bootrec /rebuildbcd

Press Enter after each command

Restart your laptop and check if Windows loads normally

5. Run HP UEFI diagnostics (optional)

To rule out hardware faults:

  • Power off the laptop
  • Press Power + Esc, then tap F2
  • Run System Tests > Fast Test and Hard Drive Test

Let me know how the system responds after these steps. You’ve done the right thing by reaching out early, and I’ll be here to guide you further if needed.
