I am having similar issues as well. Ever since I upgraded my HP Envy to Windows 10 the light on F6 indicating if the sound is off does not work. Pressing the button does toggle the sound off and on, it's just the indicator does not work anymore. I wish they would fix this....

Yep, exactly the same issue.
I'm really dissapointed in HP support team. This proved to be a common problem among dozen series of their products, and yet there is no answer from anyone from HP. They could've at least give us a heads-up that they are aware of the problem, and what can we expect about it being solved in the future, but instead it's been 4 months, and still nothing.

This was the solution for me!
(W8 driver but it works)
EDIT:
I need both installed: HP Hotkey Support sp71790 (W10) and HP Hotkey Support sp69911 (W8) otherwise it doesnt work. Strange but this fixed the issue in my case...

Thanks for reply,
I tried your solution, but unfortunately it didn't gave expected results.
I have Probook 450 g1 and I downloaded Hotkey Support for Win 8/8.1 (sp66562) and for Win 10 (sp71790). First I had to uninstall my current Hotkey Support to be able to install older version, so my procedure went like this:
1. Uninstalled current Hotkey Support
2. Restarted laptop
3. Installed HS for Win 8/8.1 (sp66562)
4. Restarted laptop
5. Installed HS for Win 10 (sp71790)
6. Restarted laptop
But as I said, it's still the same: mute button won't illuminate amber when I turn off the sound, and mic won't mute/unmute (fn + F8).
