Hi @Garry5002,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how stressful this situation must feel, seeing your HP notebook stuck with an error and knowing the C: drive was accidentally formatted can feel like the ground has been pulled out from under you. Let’s take this step by step and get you back to a working system.

Why This Happened

The error 0xc000007b, combined with a formatted C: drive, means the Windows operating system files are gone, so the built-in recovery environment can’t repair or restore them. But don’t worry, you can still bring your PC back to factory settings using HP’s recovery tools.

Steps to Restore Factory Settings on HP Notebook (Model 590-p0050)

Option 1: Use HP Cloud Recovery Tool

If the recovery partition was erased during formatting, you’ll need to create a fresh recovery USB.

  1. On another working PC:
  2. Prepare a USB drive:
    • Minimum 32 GB capacity.
    • Back up any data on it because it will be erased.

  3. Run the tool:
    • Enter your product number (590-p0050) when prompted.
    • The tool will download the factory image and create a bootable recovery USB.

  4. On your HP Notebook:
    • Insert the recovery USB.
    • Power on and press ESC repeatedly, then F9 for Boot Menu.
    • Select the USB drive and follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall Windows and restore factory settings.

Option 2: If Recovery Partition Exists

Try HP Recovery Manager:

  1. Power on and press ESC repeatedly, then F11 for System Recovery.
  2. If the recovery partition is intact, you’ll see options to restore to factory settings.
  3. Follow the prompts to reinstall Windows.

⚠️ Important Notes

  • This process will erase all data on the PC.
  • Ensure the notebook is connected to power during recovery.
  • If the recovery partition is gone, Option 1 is your only solution.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
