After replacing my SSD for more storage, my laptop boots into UEFI System Diagnostics and returns a 3F0 error. How do I install Windows onto this new SSD? I had a valid license on the previous one. Thank you!

@snowfake -- the motherboard assigns codes to each SATA socket.. So, "3F0" is the first socket, and "3F1" is the second socket, and so on.

So, a problem with "3F0" could be:

  • new SSD not getting power
  • SATA connector on the new SSD not properly connected to the motherboard
  • dead SSD

Did you replace the SSD yourself, or was it done by a qualified computer technician?

I replaced the SSD myself, do you think I did it wrong?

@snowfake -- something is wrong. I gave the three most-likely items to check.

P.S. Since your computer was "activated", Microsoft knows the product-key.

When you do install Windows (either on the same or a new disk-drive),

the Installer will "call home" to Microsoft, retrieve the product-key, and use it.

At some point, you may have to click "I do not have a product-key", to force it to "call-home".

Ok I figured it out, and it was a lot easier than it seemed. Went to Microsoft’s website and grabbed the Windows installer which I couldn’t find before, put the files on a thumb drive and plugged it in and it worked. My new SSD was recognized! Thanks for your help!

Yes!  I had assumed that you had already booted from that "Windows Installer" software, and then had your issue.

Click "thumbs up" if I helped you, and click "Accept As Solution" if that is the case.
