Hi there,
I have a HP stream which needed an update on windows 10. Earlier on in the day I had to try and remove some unused apps and software to free up the limited storage it has. I also amended the save too to my local external hard drive and set away the updates. It all appeared to be working until the restart required when I was presented with the following message "Undoing changes made to your computer" and a black screen.
This has been like this for the last 12 hours, I have tried a soft and hard restart to no avail. I have also tried to click f10 and f11 and managed to get into the blue screen to wipe it but it won't accept my password for my email address even know it is right! So unable to do anything...Please help?

Hi
PLEASE POST ANY RESULTS.
First:- Turn off the computer, press and hold the PWR button for 4 seconds.
Then - Leave only keyboard and mouse connected, disconnect all externally connected
devices such as Docking Station, USB storage devices, displays, and printers.
Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.
Next - Press and Hold the Power button for 15 seconds to Hard Reset.
Rinse and Repeat; Re-Connect the AC adapter.
NOW begin checking/testing/proving the Hardware is fit for purpose.
Power on your PC, press ESC (repeatedly), then F2 at the prompt.
Choose System Tests (Fast Test does a 4 minute hardware check).
Unfortunately you need a second device to create a Recovery Media.

Since I don't know what/which Stream you have I cannot really target the help (if i actually had any to offer), so this is a guess and somewhat generic.

Hi there,
Thanks for responding, I have ran the system tests and it said that everything was fine. The soft and hard reset doesn't do anything, it just keeps asking me to reconnect external hard drive? I have tried donwloading the windows installation media via another pc but not sure how to progress with this.
Thanks
Michelle

Hi
You download an .iso file which is easily burnt/extracted/expanded onto a DVD/USB.
w10-1909-or-similar.iso
I use AnyBurn, others recommend Rufus for this task, when it is expanded it could look like this...
D:\>dir
Volume in drive D is ESD_ISO
Volume Serial Number is 4823-0029
Directory of D:\
09/01/2020 21:22 73,904 setup.exe
09/01/2020 21:22 1,509,688 bootmgr.efi
09/01/2020 21:22 409,654 bootmgr
09/01/2020 21:22 128 autorun.inf
09/01/2020 21:26 <DIR> support
13/04/2020 11:09 <DIR> sources
09/01/2020 21:26 <DIR> efi
09/01/2020 21:26 <DIR> boot
if in doubt please ask.

Hi
Did you use Rufus or Anyburn?
The iso is either just that an .iso and you use Rufus or AnyBurn, or (I probably forgot to offer this....)
The Microsoft download tool will download and create the USB for you.
So I have probably confused you.
More Later.

Hi
On the second device you should have seen a screen like my attachment,
which will after a lengthy time create a bootable USB that ESC and F9 should find on your Stream.
You may get the chance to do an 'over the top' install keeping old settings in WINDOWS.OLD.
If in doubt please ask.

Sorry I bet you wish you'd never asked!
I have no idea what to do here, i've installed 'Any burn' and the 'Media creation tool' they are both sitting on my USB stick on my spare laptop.
I have tried to run the media creation but it is looking to save it onto my c drive.
I have no idea what to do with 'Any Burn' and struggling to understand the above path / instructions.

Hi
NO. I gave duff/conflicting instructions. Not exactly WRONG, just different.
I gave instructions that were not optimum. I gave you the way I would do it.
STEP 1 Forget what I said.
You go to your second device, you visit the W10 page and download the Microsoft Media Creation Tool.
NOT TO A USB.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=691209
S:\Downloads>dir
04/05/2020 14:03 19,255,000 MediaCreationTool1909.exe
You then open/run the download.
The MCT runs and takes a few minutes to prepare a page as per my previous attachment.
The Licence Agreement Acceptance.
Then a few more minutes and see attached screenshot.
You choose "Create installation Media...."
Eventually your USB will be wiped and a bootable USB will be created to use in your stream.
If in doubt please ask.
Sorry for leading you up the garden path on this one.
