We did a fresh load of windows 10 64 pro on this laptop. It seemed fine, but performance is lousy. I went down the road of troubleshooting the high disk usage and did not resolve the issue.
I have tried windows updates and HP updates.
In device manager the System Firmware has a yellow exclamation point, I have looked for updates for this but cannot find anything. I tried to uninstall it and reboot hoping windows would reinstall the driver, but that failed and now it is in a loop installing a BIOS update over and over. In the device properties it has "This device cannot work properly until you restart your computer (code 14). If I restart, it installs a bios update and still tells me to reboot. Letting it sit for a bit, it locked up and I had to hold the power button for 60 seconds to bring it down. Restarting it has the bios update going again.
Need some help on this one.
Thanks.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,
I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue. In some cases, the automatic BIOS recovery fails because the Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) data is corrupted. The CMOS stores BIOS settings. Use this procedure to reset the CMOS and recover the BIOS.
-
Turn off the computer.
-
Press and hold the Windows + V keys, and then simultaneously press and hold the power button. After 2 to 3 seconds, continue to press and hold the Windows + V keys, but release the power button.
-
When the CMOS Reset screen displays or you hear beeping sounds, release the Windows + V keys.
At the completion of a successful CMOS Reset, a message similar to the following one is displayed.
-
Press enter to restart the computer.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

As of now we have resolved the yellow triangle. We did a fresh install of windows 11 pro on a Samsung 980 nvme ssd. Performance remains terrible.
Nothing seems to help. All windows updates are done, optional as well. HP reports all drivers up to date.
I'm happy to provide stats and timings just tell me what you need.
The new drive is 1tb, using Samsung magician software shows the drive healthy but slow. Write test that's normally about 40 minutes for 1tb was at 90 minutes and only about 50 percent done.
I've reload win 11 3 times just in case. Even the install is slower than it should be.
What else can we try?

I have been tied up with other issues and had to put this one aside for a time. One thing that I have discovered now that I'm looking at with fresh eyes.
While on battery power the drive is blazing fast.
While plugged in it is scary slow.
for example:
Battery Powered:
Sequential Read speed - 3112 MB/s
Sequential Write speed - 2520 MB/s
Random Read speed - 206787 IOPS
Random Write speed - 145240 IOPS
Plugged In:
Sequential Read speed - 93 MB/s
Sequential Write speed - 72 MB/s
Random Read speed - 4150 IOPS
Random Write speed - 3173 IOPS
That is an amazing drop off. I have done this test several times, each time is similar, large difference between the plugged in and battery only timings. Is there anything you can suggest that I can do to troubleshoot this or is it still a support issue I will need to pay for?
I have had some random CMOS errors as well when restarting the laptop.
Thanks.
