Hello HP Support Community,

I have an HP laptop with an active warranty (3 months remaining). My device originally came with Windows 11 Home, which was properly activated and working fine.

Yesterday, I installed the Windows 11 24H2 update via the official Windows Update prompt. After restarting, I received an activation error:
*Error code: 0xC004F074*
The system now shows:
*Edition: Windows(R), Core edition*
*Channel: VOLUME_KMSCLIENT*
*Status: Notification mode*

I did not reinstall Windows manually or change the edition. I only installed the update as prompted.
I also tried the following:
- Running slmgr /xpr → shows "Windows is in notification mode"
- Running wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey → returns nothing
- Running slmgr /dli → confirms VOLUME_KMSCLIENT channel

It seems the update may have switched my system to a volume license channel, which I don’t have access to.

Can HP help me restore the original Windows 11 Home edition and activation?
I’m still under warranty and did not modify the system.

Thank you in advance!

Hi @Nurul_hak112.

I understand your HP laptop is showing a Windows 11 activation error 0xC004F074 after the 24H2 update. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check Internet Connection

Activation requires communication with Microsoft servers.

Make sure your laptop is connected to a stable network.

Run the Activation Troubleshooter

Go to Settings > System > Activation.

Select Troubleshoot to let Windows automatically detect and fix activation issues.

Verify Date and Time Settings

Incorrect system time can block activation.

Set your laptop’s clock to automatic sync with internet time.

Force Activation via Command Prompt

Open Command Prompt as Administrator.

Type slmgr.vbs /ato and press Enter to retry online activation.

Re-Enter Product Key (if available)

In Settings > System > Activation, choose Change product key.

Enter your Windows 11 key again to refresh the license.

Check License Type

If your laptop came with Windows 11 preinstalled, it should have a digital license.

Digital licenses usually reactivate automatically after updates once the system reconnects.

Install Latest Updates

Go to Settings > Windows Update and install all pending updates.

Microsoft often releases patches to resolve activation errors after major upgrades.

I hope this helps.
