OMG, how did I not catch this???? It's totally possible that the legacy drivers I had in the one of the two identical 7820HQs was the reason..... Still the other one was completely up to date and I got "this pc doesn't currently meet....". Anyways, thanks a lot!

Nope, false alarm:
Windows 11 Intel® Core™ i7-7820HQ Supported Systems
Dell Precision 5520
Surface Studio 2
10/4/2021: Page updated to remove Lenovo device from list.
You just gotta love M$. Surface Stufio 2 coincidentally....

So basically, they made the exception for their one model notebook.
Which tells me that this whole hardware requirement thing is a bunch of hooey.
They probably just didn't want to be flooded with support calls with folks running W11 on older PC's that don't have driver support and don't want to deal with it, like they were when they opened the flood gates to any PC running W7 to be eligible to upgrade to W10.
So, they draw an arbitrary line at the Intel 8th Gens/AMD Ryzen3xxx for W11.

Yes, I just found this:
In the footnote, if you click on the selected devices it will send you to a page with list of supported devices and currently only the following devices are supported:
Dell Precision 5520
Surface Studio 2
For this CPU, you will need to have a supported devices too, so even if you have a compatible processor , in case your device is not listed, you won't be able to upgrade and this is exception for this CPU model.
Feels like sth out of a Monty Python movie to me..... Anyways, thanks for the tip about the DHC drivers. This probably was the problem with Jens mod....
