Obtained this from my father’s apartment when I cleared it. Will it comfortably run Windows 11?

Hello
Windows 11 on devices that don't meet minimum system requirements

If the installation goes well for some, for others it can be complicated

Think carefully, before taking the risk, see the experiences of other users, see if it can be interesting, or if you can wait to have a new computer later, 100% compatible!
Windows 10 remains one of the best systems, and can be used for quite a while.

I have performed the installation with a compatible computer ..
And I can not take full advantage of the more or less interesting features, because you have to have a certain material
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-11-specifications
So far, so there is nothing extraordinary about this system
So if the computer is not compatible, you have little interest in using it ..
In some cases, we can have more problem than something else (performance etc), it is better to wait until most of the bugs are solved.
And even better to have a 100% compatible computer, in order to be able to take advantage of the available features
Now, if you want to give it a try, first plan to use specialized software, and make a ghost copy of your installation.

You will not be able to install a compatible processor
you would have to force install windows 11
there are several tutorials on the net, it's up to you

Solved: Re: Upgrade CPU for meeting Windows 11-req’s? - HP Support Community - 8290673

--------------------

just for information, I did not check the compatibility or not of this model

as you can see, we can tell you that there is no problem for some
off, that's not the case for everyone
if you feel like you can work it out if something goes wrong, you can try..
but my message is to warn you that it is not always easy
I currently have the latest version with a half-compatible computer, it works fine, nothing more!

[edit]

just check, no drivers

Hi, @scarbs

The only way you can find out if your specific model notebook will run W11, even though it is not supported would be to try it out and see.

I used this method recently for W11 22H2 which is fairly easy to do.

Upgrade to Windows 11 22H2 on unsupported hardware | Jensd's I/O buffer

Most of the earlier methods you will find on the internet used to upgrade from W10>W11 21H2 no longer work.

Microsoft changed something in the W11 22H2 installation file.

I'm running HP desktop and notebook PC's much older than yours on W11 22H2 and they work fine.

Mine are using W7 drivers for some of the devices.

You can make it work one way or the other.

You will get all of the security and quality updates.

You may even get some driver updates.

I check what I get on the unsupported PC's I have against a PC that is fully supported for W11 and is running W11 22H2.

Ironically, I had to clean install both versions of W11 on that HP notebook.

It would not upgrade from W10>W11 22H1 or from W11 21H1>22H2.

Before you try and upgrade to W11, I recommend that you make a system image of your current W10 installation prior to updating to W11, so you can easily reinstall W10 in the future.  I used the free Macrium Reflect software to do that, under the Backup at Home section.

Along with the system image, make sure you create the bootable DVD or USB rescue drive you boot from to access the system image stored on your portable hard drive.

Macrium Software | Reflect Free Edition

If you find right away that W11 is not for you, then you can go back to W10 within 10 days.

Unfortunately Jens mod worked on one kabylake machine, gave an error and won't upgrade no matter what on identical kabylake. So it's a hit and miss....

I clean installed W11 22H2 on my PC's that wouldn't do an in-place upgrade.

we always come back to the same
all is said @scarbs
the user, must make a choice, even if many examples here show that there are sometimes problems, we can tell you that it works for some.. that's what I explained!
Of course, this can go well, but it can be the opposite...

if you have a computer that works well with windows 10, it is not indicated compatible, you can still use it for a while
Windows 11 does not bring much better, if you do not have all the required configuration, but ok, especially if you are a gamer..
I therefore prefer to prevent, if you want to try take the precautions already indicated, backups, disk images etc ...
if you can do without windows 11 then don't waste your time
search the community to check for possible issues, some links given here, but since then there have been many more

On the other hand, even if my computer is not completely compatible, ok, it works well, on this side, no problem
but no advantage found so far, stable, but my pc was stable with windows 10 too!
features, to discuss, good, but many less good, not very useful ..
Faster, no, since I did an upgrade, not a full install
It would be the same, if I reinstalled windows 10 brand new, already seen in the past..
Changes where users can be confused, why make it simple if you can make it more complicated...

Hi, @scarbs

The reason I upgraded 15 unsupported PCs to W11 one at a time was because Microsoft advertised that W11 was a little faster than W10 providing faster boot up time and responsiveness.

Why would I have continued to upgrade my PC's if this was not the case?

I have found that to be the case on each one.

In any event, this article presents both sides of the coin.

You can find others as well.

Microsft won't say otherwise, it's normal
logical, that he highlights his new operating system, it has always been the case
and over the years, we could see among the manufacturers, xx recommends, windows 7, then windows 10...
Certainly, I do not dissuade the user from trying, but it is quite normal, to warn, that in some cases it may not happen like everyone else ..
And yes, my computer is not faster, it was already working very well, the games are not working better, unfortunately!!

If I recommend, windows 11, yes, but for an informed user, who knows what he is doing, who has taken these precautions, and who does not expect to have a computer three times faster

Yeah, that worked for me (thankfully). I can't believe I have to resort to hacks to upgrade HP ProBook Z2W60EA i7-7820HQ (quad core kabylake 4ghz) to windows 22H2. I'm really curious to see what will happen when Micro$oft pulls the plug on these ""supposedly"" unupgradeable machines in '25.

I can't believe it either.

The Intel specs for your notebook's processor indicates it is supported for W11, but there is a footnote:

Windows processor requirements Windows 11 supported Intel processors | Microsoft Learn

[1] Only select devices that shipped with modern drivers based on Declarative, Componentized, Hardware Support Apps (DCH) design principles.

I don't know what drivers your notebook shipped with, but it does support DCH drivers.

The only downside to upgrading unsupported PC's to W11 is if you don't want to do a clean install if one of the in-place upgrade hacks fails.

That, and having to go through this process every September or October.

It is certainly not for the casual PC user, or for users that it would take many hours or days to reconfigure their PC's after a clean install.

I can have any of my PCs up and running on a new OS in less than 2 hours after a clean install with all programs and files reinstalled, so it is not a big deal for me.

If it weren't for my PC's running a bit better on W11 than they do on W10, I wouldn't go through the trouble.

It won't be long before Microsoft will be introducing W12.

I don't think there will be a 6-year gap as there was between W10 and W11.
