HP 17.3 inch Laptop PC 17-c0000 (2W0J5AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

When researching this error, it appears that one of the partitions is not large enough, or doesn't have enough space, to perform the update. Anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions?

@Henry32,

If you get that error, you either need to enlarge the partition or to delete files on it to create free space for the W11 24H2 update.

This article has a video that is easy to follow that shows how to delete a folder on the partition for more free space.

Fix We couldn’t update system reserved partition in Windows 11

The partition stores critical boot system files, so you need to run the command lines exactly as directed to avoid mistakes that may cause the notebook to stop booting into Windows.

Thank you Banhien, but none of these solutions worked. I am now getting a message when I try to update that "This PC doesn't currently meet Windows 11 system requirements" because "We couldn't update the system reserved partition"

I purchased this laptop new with Windows 11 Home already installed. I never had any problems updating until 24H2 came out.

Thank you, That was very helpful. I deleted all the font files, restarted. I no longer got the message that the pc was not compatible with Windows 11. However, when I started to download ind install 24H2, I received a download error. Now I definitely have enough space on c:, so that shouldn’t be a problem. So of course I googled that and watched a video where the first step is to change the AppReadiness service to Automatic and start the service.

i did that, restarted, went to Widows Updates, and although there was a security update and cumulative update for 23H2, no longer is 24H2 showing. I did those updates, and I am now running 23H2 as I was before, with no option to update to 24H2.

Puzzling, but not the end of the world.

You can update to 24H2 from the Microsoft W11 download site.

Download Windows 11

Use the first option (Windows 11 Installation Assistant). This is the in-place upgrade which doesn't affect your personal data, apps and settings.

Hopefully, your boot partition has enough free space for W11 to update it with.
