I have a HP Pavilion G6-1331sa that has Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit installed however I don’t have any HP software and I don’t know if I need a HP OEM of Windows 7 as theres no HP logo that shows up when booting it up, is there any software I could download for it still? I have the product key still.

Hi @Mxshki,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I understand you have an HP Pavilion g6-1331sa running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, but the installation does not contain the original HP software, and you are wondering whether you need an HP OEM copy of Windows 7.

The absence of an HP logo during Windows startup does not by itself confirm that the installation is incorrect or non-OEM. Since you still have the Windows 7 product key, keep it safe. Microsoft confirms that Windows 7 systems supplied with Windows preinstalled normally had the product key on a sticker attached to the computer.

Windows 7 support

Please be aware that Windows 7 reached end of support on January 14, 2020. Microsoft no longer provides standard software or security updates for Windows 7, so we cannot recommend it as a currently supported operating system.

HP also no longer supplies a new Windows 7 OEM recovery installation for this older model through current recovery services.

What about the original HP drivers and software?

There is one important clarification here: the official HP Pavilion g6-1331sa Notebook PC Software and Driver Downloads page is still online, and it currently lists Windows 7 and Windows 8 as operating-system selections. Therefore, before using anything from a third-party driver website, I recommend checking the official HP page for whatever Windows 7 drivers or HP software are still available for your exact model.

HP explains that the correct drivers are important because Windows uses them to communicate with hardware such as graphics, audio, keyboards, webcams, and other components.

Because both the notebook and Windows 7 are legacy products, new driver development and compatibility updates should not be expected. Windows Update might locate some suitable drivers, but because Windows 7 itself is no longer supported by Microsoft, availability cannot be guaranteed.

I would also avoid downloading drivers or an "HP OEM Windows 7 ISO" from unofficial websites.

So, if your current Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit installation is activated and working, you do not need to reinstall Windows simply because the original HP applications or HP-branded startup appearance are missing.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
