Why is Windows Update stuck on checking for updates?

Download and install this update manually.

 

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=53335

 

Then reboot and try the updates again.

Do you have Automatic up-dates enabled???

 

Try shutting down the computer and see if it wants to install updates.

 

If it does then you may have a conflict with Automatic up-dates and manual up-dates running at the same time.

 

Set Automatic up-dates to NEVER.
