Hello,
I have a 10-years old Compaq nx9420 with Windows XP.
I need to upgrade the OS in order to install communication tools due to covid (not available for XP). My questions are:
1. Can I upgrade Windows to 7/8/10 for free with the current XP license?
2. Which is the latest Windows version supported by that model? I plan to upgrade RAM to 4GB and replace HDD with an SSD.
Thank you,
Gee

Hi
I doubt it is achievable, however...
You could try and install W10 alongside your existing XP, DUAL boot.
Use a Virtual Box.
So that you are not stuck with a broken computer, you shrink the C: and make a partition for W10 and try it.
Normally XP would be Legacy/MBR and W10 Secure/GPT but it may install.
https://www.virtualbox.org/ may take a W10 install and function.
If any of the above works then you will need to buy a LICENCE from Microsoft.
""install communication tools"" what are they exactly?

Thank you,
I came across this post, which mentioned about loading Windows 10. So this is not a free upgrade and I need a license?
Webex, which is used for online courses in school, requires at least Windows Vista.

Hi

Hopefully this is still true. XP is fully supported. LINUX also.

First off, as @Lil_Boy_Blue indicated, there are no FREE upgrades from Windows XP -- any upgrade you do will require your purchasing a license.
Second, there are not going to be Win10 drivers for equipment that old -- so that is why the suggestion is made to try a virtual installation -- to see if it works with your hardware, which quite frankly, I think it will NOT.
