My laptop was not updated since 2017 or early 2018. I recently installed all of the required and recommended updates. A few days later, Windows would not open properly. When I go to the troubleshooting area, HO Recovery Manager gets an error that it cant open file X:\sources\recovery\Tools\HP\Rita-tool\  When I try to run the computer checkup the only option is to open a command prompt. I do not have the option to reset to factory settings. How can I get my computer to operate again?

Hi:

What I suggest you do if you are running W10 on there would be to clean install W10 by creating installation media using the media creation tool at the link below.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

After W10 installs, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.

Hi Paul,

my only two options are to Troubleshoot or turn off my PC. I am unable to get to the Internet for this solution. If I select troubleshoot, my options are HP Recovery manager or Advanced Options.

Hi:

You'll need access to another Windows PC to use the media creation tool.

Otherwise, see if the info at the link below is of help to you...

Perform a Windows 10 reset through Windows Recovery Environment

I do not get the option to restart this PC. Is there anything else I can do?

Unfortunately, nothing that I know of.

You will have to get access to another Windows PC and create the W10 installation media.
