Welcome to HP Support Community, @Bernice21

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP laptop is not powering on after a BIOS update and only the charging port light is on, you can try the following troubleshooting steps:

1.Perform a Hard Reset:

Disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
Reconnect the battery and AC adapter, then try to power on the laptop.

2.Check for Loose Connections:

Ensure that the battery and all cables are securely connected.
It might help to reseat any connected components like RAM.

3.Trial Without Battery:

Remove the battery if it is removable and try turning on the laptop using only the AC adapter.

4.Inspect the Power Source:

Verify if the AC adapter is functioning correctly by using it on another device or by using a different adapter to power your laptop.

5.Attempt a BIOS Recovery:

Some HP laptops have a built-in method to recover from BIOS errors:
Turn off the computer.
Press and hold the Windows Key + B and press the power button for 2-3 seconds. Continue holding the Windows Key + B until the system powers on.

6.Check for Charging:

Leave the laptop connected to the charger for at least an hour in case the battery has been deeply discharged, then retry to power on the laptop.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
