My laptop experienced the blue screen shutdown a few times in the last couple of days. When I did a restart yesterday I received a message window stating the following :
Windows Memory Diagnostic - Your computer has a memory problem - memory problems can cause your computer to lose information or stop working. To identify and repair the problem, contact the computer manufacturer.
Please help.
Thank you

Huffer,
Thanks. I went into the "Memory Information" screen and it indicated the DIMM Bottom-slot 1 (left) was a Samsung part number M471B1G73DB0-YK0 , 8192 MB, 1600 MHZ, DDR3
This is different than the one you supplied via the Amazon link.
I ordered the following with the Amazon Pro tech installation for additional $56.
I also noticed on the "Memory Information " screen there looked to be another location for another memory module called "Bottom-slot 2 (right)". It indicated "not installed". Does this mean theres available room to install another 8GB memory module? If so, how does that benefit the user?
Thanks again

Thank you.
It's a HP Envy 15 notebook PC.
I ran the system Fast Test which produced the following:
Memory fast check: failed
Failure ID: M086MG-79T8JK-MFPV6K-40F303
Product ID: G0T55AV
Memory module 1: Bottom-Slot 1(left)

Sure. Here is the Service Manual:
Memory replacement "how to" is on page 72 of the Manual. I am sorry to say that replacing a bad memory chip is very, very difficult on this model. It requires extensive careful disassembly and even removal of the motherboard. All spelled out in the Manual, however.
This is in Russian but does show the proper procedure. You don't see the memory until about 09:30 into the video.

Memory part numbers:
4-GB memory module (PC3L, 12800, 1600-MHz) 691740-005 8-GB memory module (PC3L, 12800, 1600-MHz) 693374-005
Memory on amazon.com:
I would just go ahead and replace all the memory modules while I was at it.

The part I linked is an absolutely equivalent compatible part, made by Micron which is a company that uses the same Samsung memory chips as Samsung itself and is a very highly regarded memory maker. It was a 4 gig module, not 8. I thought maybe you would want to go ahead and install 2 x 4 which would actually perform slightly faster than 1 x 8 because of dual channel. Yes you have an open slot and I guess it is hard to see the benefit other than it does theoretically allow further expansion to up to 16 gigs. But as stated it is not an easy job and beyond the abilities of most end users.
I do not work for HP I am a fellow end user who happens to have replaced and upgraded memory on dozens if not hundreds of laptops so I would not throw you a bum steer but ultimately I can't be held accountable for HP design decisions. I can tell you how to best play the hand they dealt us.
Post back if you need any further help.
