have entered same password since I received the unit but now it says password is invalid.  I have tried almost all remidies listed and the unit still will not accept the password.  It has always asked for the admin password and I have always entered the same one except the first time I logged into the laptop.  I purchased this unit on line from a young lady and the screen was broken.  I replaced the screen and the unit worked fine until now.  I have been trying to install a different hdd and have been having trouble getting the unit to boot.  The unit is an I3 and originally had win 10 on it.  When win 11 became available I downloaded the win 11 home software and laptop worked fine til now.  I know it must be something I did to iot when trying to get new software onto the hdd.   Help!!!!

Hi @tws43,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If you are having trouble with a password on your HP laptop and it is not accepting the password you remember setting, there are a few steps you might consider:

Password Reset Options

  1. Check Caps Lock and Num Lock: Ensure these keys are not on, as they could change what is typed.

  2. Local Account Password Reset:
    • If you were using a local account, you typically need to reset the password via the password hint or security questions. If this is not available, you may need to reset the device unless you remember the password.

  3. Microsoft Account Recovery:
    • If you are using a Microsoft account, you can reset the password online through Microsoft's Recover your account.

Safe Mode Access

Try restarting your computer in Safe Mode and then accessing the account:

  • Restart the laptop and press F8 during the boot process.
  • Select Safe Mode and try logging in with the same credentials.

Physical Access for Restore

If the software-based solutions don't work, consider:

  • Creating a Password Reset Disk: If you have previously created a password reset disk, you can use it to reset the password.
  • Contact HP Support: If you continue to experience problems, contacting HP's customer support might provide guidance specific to your laptop model or situation.

Data Recovery

If you're planning to change the HDD (Hard Disk Drive), make sure to back up any important data before doing so. You can do this by connecting the HDD to another computer and copying the data.

It's important to note that certain hardware changes, like installing a new hard drive, will have no impact on your password situation, except if the operating system is reinstalled or modified in a way that could affect accounts and login settings.

Remember, for privacy and security reasons, refrain from sharing or requesting help about passwords from unauthorized sources.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
