Welcome to our HP Community forum!
You can determine if your HP Pavilion Laptop PC 15-eg0000 (28Z28AV) running Microsoft Windows 11 needs a replacement battery by checking both visual performance cues and using built-in software diagnostics.
Here are the primary ways to check your battery health:
1. Watch for Performance Warning Signs:
Your laptop will usually show physical or behavioral signs when the battery is nearing the end of its lifespan:
- Rapid draining: The battery drops percentage quickly, even during light tasks like web browsing.
- Overheating: The laptop gets unusually hot while charging or discharging.
- Sudden shutdowns: The laptop shuts down without warning while unplugged, even if it showed a charge remaining.
- Only working on AC power: The laptop turns off the moment you unplug the power adapter.
- Physical swelling: The trackpad or keyboard area looks raised, warped, or bulging. If this occurs, stop using the laptop immediately and remove the battery to prevent damage to your laptop or even a fire hazard.
2. Generate a Windows 11 Battery Report:
You can generate a precise health report native to Windows 11 using the command line:
- Right-click the Start button and select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Click Yes if a pop-up asks for permission.
- Type: powercfg /batteryreport and press Enter.
- Windows will generate an HTML file and display the path (usually C:\Users\YourUsername\battery-report.html).
- Open File Explorer, find that file, and double-click to open it in a web browser.
How to read the report: Scroll to the Installed batteries section and find Design Capacity and Full Charge Capacity. If your Full Charge Capacity is less than 70% to 80% of the Design Capacity, the battery has significantly degraded and is ready to be replaced.
3. Use HP Diagnostics:
HP includes specific built-in tools designed to read the battery's internal hardware status:
- HP Support Assistant: Search for HP Support Assistant in your Windows taskbar. Go to Fixes & Diagnostics to run the battery check. It will give you a clear status, such as "Normal", "Calibrate", or "Replace".
- HP Startup Diagnostics: Turn off your laptop completely. Turn it back on and immediately tap the Esc key repeatedly until a menu appears. Press F2 to open system diagnostics, select Component Tests, and run the Power/Battery test.
To help narrow down your next steps, could you tell me:
- Are you currently experiencing specific performance issues (such as fast draining or sudden shutdowns)?
- Do you need assistance finding the exact replacement battery part number, where to purchase a replacement battery or a guide on how to replace it?
Kind Regards,
NonSequitur777
