I'm occassionally getting the blue screen of death since I upgraded to Windows 11 about a month ago. I ran a clean reinstall yesterday, and the problem persists.

Hi @LaLee77,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're using an HP Notebook - 17-by0053od running Windows 11, and you're still seeing Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) errors even after a clean reinstall. That tells us this is likely hardware-related or a driver incompatibility, not a corrupted OS issue.
1. Note the BSOD Error Message
Next time the BSOD happens, write down the stop code or error (e.g., MEMORY_MANAGEMENT, IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, etc.). This helps pinpoint the cause.
2. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
- Shut down your laptop.
- Press ESC repeatedly during startup.
- Press F2 to open HP Diagnostics.
- Run tests for:
- Memory (RAM)
- Hard Drive
- Processor
If any test fails, it’s a hardware fault — contact HP Support.
3. Update BIOS + Drivers via HP
Outdated BIOS or chipset drivers are a common cause post-Windows 11 upgrade.
- Go to your model's support page:
🔗 HP Notebook - 17-by0053od Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support
Download and install:
- Latest BIOS update
- Chipset drivers
- Intel Management Engine Interface
- Graphics drivers (Intel and/or AMD if dual graphics)
- Realtek audio/network drivers
Use HP Support Assistant for auto-detection if preferred.
4. Disable Fast Startup
Sometimes, Fast Startup in Windows 11 causes instability on older BIOS/firmware:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do
- Click "Change settings that are currently unavailable"
- Uncheck "Turn on fast startup"
- Save changes and restart
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
