Hi @sultanobeidat,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're having issues with both the built-in and onscreen keyboards on your HP Spectre x360 when trying to boot from a USB device. Here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue.

Check BIOS/UEFI Settings

  • Access BIOS/UEFI: Restart your laptop and press ESC, F2, or F10 (depending on your model) repeatedly as it starts up to enter the BIOS/UEFI setup.
  • Check Keyboard Settings: Look for settings related to USB and Legacy Support. Ensure USB ports are enabled, and check if there's an option for Legacy USB Support or similar, and enable it if available.

Try a Different USB Port

  • If you have multiple USB ports, try plugging the USB device into a different port. Sometimes specific ports can have issues.

Test with an External USB Keyboard

  • Connect an external USB keyboard to your laptop to see if it works. This can help determine if the issue is with the built-in keyboard or a broader issue.

Update BIOS/UEFI

  • Ensure your BIOS/UEFI is up to date. You can check HP's website for the latest BIOS update for your model and follow their instructions for updating.

Use HP Support Assistant

  • HP Support Assistant: If you can boot into Windows, use the HP Support Assistant to check for and install any available driver updates or diagnostics.

Check for Hardware Issues

  • Perform a Hard Reset: Disconnect all external devices, remove the battery (if possible), and hold down the power button for 15-20 seconds. Reconnect everything and try again.
  • Inspect for Physical Damage: Check if there's any visible damage to the keyboard or USB ports.

Bootable USB Issues

  • Ensure that the USB drive is properly prepared and formatted. Try using a different USB drive or re-create the bootable USB using a different tool.

Onscreen Keyboard Disappearing

  • If the onscreen keyboard disappears, it might be an issue with the boot environment or the USB boot image. Ensure the bootable USB is correctly configured and try using another computer to test it.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @sultanobeidat,

Thank you for your response,

Here are some steps you can take to resolve these issues.

Fixing the Boot Error (0xc00000f)

This error usually indicates a problem with the boot configuration data (BCD) or a corrupted boot file. Here’s how to attempt a fix:

Use the Windows Installation Media:

  1. Create Windows Installation Media: If you haven’t already, create a Windows 11 installation USB using the Windows Media Creation Tool.
  2. Boot from the Installation Media: Insert the USB, restart your laptop, and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing ESC, F2, F10, or DEL during startup). Set the USB drive as the primary boot device.
  3. Repair Your Computer: Once booted into the Windows Setup screen, select Repair your computer instead of Install now.
  4. Navigate to Advanced Options: Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair.

Manually Rebuild BCD:

  1. Boot into Windows Recovery Environment: Use the Windows installation media as described above.
  2. Open Command Prompt: Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command Prompt.
  3. Run Commands:
    • bootrec /fixmbr
    • bootrec /fixboot
    • bootrec /scanos
    • bootrec /rebuildbcd

Dealing with Keyboard Issues

If your keyboard (both built-in and external) is not functioning, try the following:

Check BIOS/UEFI Settings:

  1. Restart your laptop and enter BIOS/UEFI settings.
  2. Look for an option related to USB Configuration or Legacy USB Support and ensure it’s enabled.

Update Drivers:

  1. If you can boot into Windows or use the HP cloud recovery tool, go to Device Manager.
  2. Find Keyboards and USB Controllers, and try updating or reinstalling their drivers.

Use an External USB Keyboard:

  1. Connect a USB keyboard and see if it works. If it does, the issue may be with the built-in keyboard.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  1. Shut down your laptop.
  2. Disconnect all external devices.
  3. Press and hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds.
  4. Restart your laptop.

Using HP Cloud Recovery Tool

Since you mentioned that the HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to boot, ensure that the USB created with it is functioning correctly. If you can boot into the recovery environment using this tool, you might need to:

  • Check for Updates: Ensure that your BIOS/UEFI is up to date. Sometimes updating the firmware can resolve compatibility issues.
  • Try Different USB Ports: Use different USB ports for your bootable drives.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
