hp laptop 17
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My laptop was shut down by power failure . When restarted my desktop ( all photos icons except for programs) was changed. I noticed the Radeon Software was now on my pc as well. All of my photos are gone but when accessed by One Drive they are there. My problem is I use Adobe Lightroom daily. When I go to select  photos for it --I can--but then it says it has to download them from one drive first. Takes forever. Why did all my things disappear and what can I do to fix this? When it was started after the power failure, something did come up that said you have been signed out and need to sign back in but that I may loose things......I"m at a loss .

@aunt4

The power failure corrupted the integrity of the underlying Windows file system -- and anything you do NOW to fix that is going to erase all the damaged files, and you would have to restore them from OneDrive.

I don't use OneDrive because is has synch problems which can result in files being erased -- so what good is that?

If this were mine, I would first disable OneDrive file synch (I don't know how to do this, you will have to search online for instructions), I would then connect a large USB stick to the PC to be used to attempt data recovery.  If the data recovery works, you will have the files on your USB stick and will then be able to copy them back to the drive on the laptop.

All you will be able to recover at best from the drive is personal data. You will not be able to recover settings, website information (including user accounts and passwords) or applications.

Your best bet for recovering data now is to do the following:

1) Download and install this utility http://www.majorgeeks.com/news/story/recover_data_in_3_steps_with_minitool_power_data_recovery_free_...
2) Run the data recovery utility to see what can be retrieved from the drive.

If that tool does not find what you need, an alternative is Recuva http://www.piriform.com/recuva

And, if that does not work well, the best tool out there is this one, but only the demo version is free https://www.runtime.org/data-recovery-software.htm
