Hi @Captainredhair,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

This looping command prompt issue is a known bug following some AMD driver updates. It happens because a background task (often amdafdapp.exe) keeps crashing and relaunching.

To stop the pop-up loop permanently, use a quick service fix, then reinstall your drivers.

Step 1: Temporarily Stop the Loop:

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager.

  2. Switch to the Services tab at the top.

  3. Look for a service named AMD ACP AFD User Service (or similar AMD audio/processor services).

  4. Right-click the service and select Stop. This will immediately stop the command prompt from reopening.

Step 2: Permanently Fix with Clean Drivers

Because your AMD component is corrupted, a clean installation is required.

  1. Download the AMD Cleanup Utility.

  2. Run this utility to thoroughly remove all traces of your current AMD graphics and processor software.

  3. Restart your laptop.

  4. Visit the Official HP® Support page to download the latest, stable AMD graphics and chipset drivers specifically verified for your HP OMEN 16.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
