Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My laptop won't boot up and "fixing" doesn't work.  I have downloaded multiple Windows 10 operating systems to install on my laptop using an external drive and command prompt.  None of these appears to be the right version.   When I type "ver" at the command prompt it tells me I'm using Windows 10.0.22621.1, which is not one of the driver options on the HP website.  Does anyone know where I can locate the drivers for this operating system?

Just get the Wi‑Fi driver from your laptop’s official driver page. It doesn’t matter if your Windows build is older or newer, as long as it’s Windows 10, the core drivers are the same and should work. After installing the Wi‑Fi driver, run Windows Update fully, and it should automatically install the rest of the drivers.

I've tested all available drivers by typing their executable names at the command prompt and each time the response was something along the lines of "incorrect driver."  The initial problem is 601, bad battery so I've ordered a replacement battery in hopes that this resolves the problem.

How exactly you trying to install drivers? There should be exe file. What are you doing in cmd?

HP Recommended

right... I'm typing the name of the executable at the command prompt.  I've downloaded every driver for this laptop and none of them are correct.  I'm dismayed that the computer fails just because of the battery since we only use it when it's plugged in.

Use windows update then, Your laptop able to connect to wifi or wifi driver is also missing?

unfortunately, the HP 15Z-CW100 laptop is only accessible through the command prompt at present.  as far as I know, WiFi is still working but without the ability to use Windows at present, I have no way of accessing WiFi that I'm aware of.  I've downloaded drivers to an external drive via a separate HP desktop and then connected the same external drive to the non-functioning laptop in order to copy the drivers to the laptop.

If no important data in your laptop then I suggest you to create bootable device from another windows system with windows 10 iso and rufus software. Then clean install windows. Download links:

Rufus software - https://github.com/pbatard/rufus/releases/download/v4.15/rufus-4.15.exe

Get windows 10 iso from here - https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/software-download/windows10ISO

Short steps to create a GPT bootable USB with Rufus:

  • Insert USB and run Rufus.
  • Select your USB in Device.
  • Click SELECT and choose your OS ISO.
  • Set Partition scheme to GPT (Target system will auto‑set to UEFI).
  • Leave all other settings at default.
  • Click START → confirm warnings → wait for READY.
  • Close Rufus and safely eject the USB.

Your USB is now bootable and ready.

Note- if you bios mode is legacy, not UEFI, then create bootable USB in MBR partition

when I ran rufus via the usb drive it played back a series of "INFO" message and then a "FAIL" - could not locate 'efi\boot\bootx64.efi' : [14] Not Found

I have a few clarification questions on your instructions that might have caused this failure:

1-am I executing rufus from the usb drive or my d: drive where my software resides or on x:\Windows\System32?

2-I got an opening message that this version of rufus is not compatible with the version of Windows I'm running

3-Boot Selection - it defaults to "Disk or ISO image" which does nothing.  which option should I select?

You need to run Rufus software from windows, not pen drive. Take below video guide help:

I already provided the Windows 10 ISO, so just follow the Rufus steps. Manually select the downloaded ISO like shown in video. Insert the USB drive first, then open Rufus, it will automatically detect the drive.
