I was getting the rotating blue circle and attempted to reset the laptop using the F11 prompt. After following several steps and selecting country, keyboard, etc....I am running into the following error:

"We can't add this profile because another one with the same ID is already on your eSIM. Please contact your mobile operator".

I tried going to airplane mode to toggle out, but seem to have no way to skip this step. It shows all of the in range WiFi networks and on each one there is a box saying "Manage eSIM profiles" and a button that says "Insert a smart card".

Is there a way to bypass this step and just connect to my WiFi network? I am counfused as to why this step would immediately follow the keyboard set-up...and not a step on WiFi first.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi @ITnightmare24,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I Understand your concern about  , don’t worry let me help you with this.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • The exact HP laptop model you’re using.
  • Whether this device originally came with cellular connectivity (LTE/5G support).
  • If you had previously set up an eSIM profile with your mobile operator.

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try in the meantime:

  1. Skip Cellular Setup (if possible):
On some HP systems, during reset, the setup wizard may prioritize cellular configuration. Look for an option like “I don’t want to set up cellular right now” or “Skip”. It may be hidden under advanced or secondary options.
  2. Disconnect Cellular Temporarily:
    • Go into BIOS/UEFI (usually by pressing F10 at startup).
    • Check if there’s an option to disable the WWAN/eSIM module.
    • Restart and attempt the reset again  this should force the system to only ask for WiFi.
  3. Use a Wired Connection:
If you have access to an Ethernet cable, connecting directly may bypass the eSIM prompt and let you proceed with setup.
  4. Clean eSIM Profiles:
If you can reach Windows after reset, go to Settings > Network & Internet > Cellular > Manage eSIM profiles and remove duplicate or old profiles. This often resolves the “same ID” error.
  5. Re-run Reset with Local Account:
If the wizard insists on network setup, try choosing “Set up with limited experience” or “Offline account” to bypass network configuration until later

I hope this helps.

Hi-

The model is 15-dy5073dx.

The device did not come with cellular connectivity.

The device was never set up with an eSIM.

The only link to eSIM is that the windows user account is on a phone with eSIM, but we had never set up the laptop,

I tried connecting the modem through a USB cable but that did not seem to work. There's no ethernet port on the labtop.

I couldn't find a setting to avoid the eSIM update through the F10 start up menu.

Let me know if you have other thoughts based on the model.

Thanks

Hi @ITnightmare24,

Thanks for your response.

Thank you for sharing the details about your HP 15-dy5073dx  that helps narrow things down. Since this model doesn’t ship with an eSIM or WWAN module, the error you’re seeing is most likely a software or configuration glitch rather than a hardware issue.

Here are a few steps you can try to move past it:

  • Check BIOS/UEFI settings: Restart the laptop and press F10 to enter BIOS. Look under Advanced or System Configuration for any references to WWAN or cellular modules. If present, disable them.
  • Update BIOS and drivers: Visit HP’s support site for your exact model and install the latest BIOS update and chipset/network drivers. This often clears phantom hardware references.
  • Network reset in Windows: In Windows, go to Settings > Network & Internet > Advanced network settings > Network reset. This will reinstall all network adapters and may remove the eSIM prompt.
  • Use a wired connection via adapter: Since your laptop doesn’t have an Ethernet port, consider using a USB-to-Ethernet adapter. This can provide a stable connection during resets or updates, avoiding reliance on wireless setup.
  • Clean reinstall of Windows (Backup all the data before reinstall OS 😞 If the error persists, performing a clean Windows installation using HP Recovery Media or Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool can ensure no leftover configuration is triggering the eSIM message.

I hope this helps.
