i ordered recovery media for my envy, upon reciept of usb drive i procceded to do a factory recovery. when i boot i do f9 and select appropiate drive then it goes to a blue screen that is blank flickers once then my power light on the dc jack port goes out then back on and then it hangs i have left it over night and no progress.. i dont know what to do. ive disabled secure boot enabled legacy changed usb3.0 to 2.0 in bios, even changed boot order and did a factory default reset for bios. nothing has worked...i just got this laptop as it is, please help.. also i upgraded from windows 8 to 10 home.

I would expect Secure Boot to be the best choice.

PLEASE POST ANY RESULTS.
First:- Turn off the computer, press and hold the PWR button for 4 seconds.
Then - Leave only keyboard and mouse connected, disconnect all externally connected
devices such as Docking Station, USB storage devices, displays, and printers.
Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.
Next - Press and Hold the Power button for 15 seconds to Hard Reset.
Rinse and Repeat; Re-Connect the AC adapter.
NOW begin checking/testing/proving the Hardware is fit for purpose.
Power on your PC, press ESC (repeatedly), then F2 at the prompt.
Choose System Tests (Fast Test does a 4 minute hardware check).

The Recovery USB is supposed to go back to Factory Fresh, which would be Windows 8.1 (64-bit), and to a designated Hard Drive configuration.
I would make another USB and prove the booting / install capabilities.
You may have been sent a faulty USB from HP.

I would try my local newsagent, W H Smith, Supermarket or somewhere that sells computer magazines.
Look for one that has a cover disk attached, like Linux Format or Linux or similar.
Buy one and boot from it, then ask again.
