My screen shows only a thin line of blue at top after turning on. After F2 it’s blue and white thin line. Bios was restored with windows key + B. No power on light blinks or beeps. Assumptions are BIOS is good and passes power on confidence test. This suggests graphic chip corrupted. Machine originally worked fine and rebooted to do chipset update and this is the result. Does anyone know how to correct the graphic chip in such a situation? Is there some way to repair the graphics without a screen? I cannot see screen to alter bios boot sequence to usb. Use of HDMI cable to other screen does not deliver any screen.

@CCunningham1, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
It seems like you are facing an issue where the laptop screen is only showing a thin line of blue and white after the chipset update, and you're unable to see anything clearly or output to an external monitor using HDMI. Here's what I can suggest based on your situation:
Try a Hard Reset
Turn off the laptop.
Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery (if possible).
Hold down the power button for about 30 seconds.
Reconnect the power and try turning it back on.
Reflash the BIOS
If the issue occurred after a BIOS update, there's a chance that the BIOS didn't flash correctly.
You mentioned restoring the BIOS with the Windows + B method, but it might be worth attempting the following:
Download the latest BIOS update from HP’s official website onto a USB drive (on a working PC).
Insert the USB drive into the laptop and perform a BIOS recovery again. You may refer to this guide: HP Notebook PCs - Recovering the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) | HP® Support
Boot to Safe Mode
Since you can’t see the screen clearly, you'll need to use key combinations to get into Safe Mode:
Refer to this guide and enter the safe mode: HP PCs - Windows Safe Mode (Windows 10) | HP® Support
If this works, you can uninstall the chipset drivers and revert to the previous working version or reinstall them.
Reinstall Graphics Drivers
Once you're able to get into Safe Mode or if you manage to connect to an external monitor:
Uninstall the current graphics drivers through the Device Manager.
Reboot the machine to let Windows try to reinstall the drivers automatically.
Reference: HP PCs - Computer starts but the screen remains blank (Windows 11, 10) | HP® Support
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.

Really good reply in my view, it provided the answers. In this instance it did not work, replacing and updating bios was what was needed but could not restore the screen. So I could not go to the next steps which were well set out. I think I have reached the end of software, so will take it to hardware guys. Now I know what to do if I reach the bottom of the recovery stack again:)
