help resetting log in password

Hi @Blk1110 ,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear you forgot the Windows login password on your HP Pavilion notebook. The reset method depends on the type of account:

1) If you use a Microsoft account:

If you sign in with an email address, reset the password online using Microsoft’s password reset page from another internet-connected device. After resetting it, connect your HP notebook to the internet and sign in with the new password.

2) If you use a local account:

If you sign in with a username instead of an email address:

Use a password reset disk if you created one earlier.

At the sign-in screen, enter the wrong password, click OK, insert the reset disk, click Reset password, and follow the Password Reset Wizard.

Use another administrator account on the same PC, if available.

Sign in to that admin account, open Control Panel > User Accounts > Manage another account, select the locked account, and choose Change the password.

3) If you have no reset disk and no admin account:

The HP document says you may need to:

  • Reset/reinstall Windows, or

  • Perform HP System Recovery, which can erase files and return the PC to factory condition.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
