Hi @devesh1998,
I reviewed the post comprehensively. I thank you for your great response. You've displayed infinite patience, fabulous skills coupled with an indefatigable spirit to resolve the issue. Kudos to you for a job well done. 🙂
Let's try these steps to install the native drivers and check if that fixes the issue.
Go to device manager (You can give a right click on Windows logo on bottom left corner of your screen and select device manager from the list)
- Now maximize the “Sound, video and game controllers” from the list. You will see the audio driver. Right-click on “Realtek high definition audio CODEC” and select “Update driver software”. (This could be another manufacturer as well. Not necessarily RealTek)
- Select “Browse my computer for driver software” – Select “Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer”.
- Select “High Definition Audio Device” (Not Realtek High Def... This is important) and click Next. You will get a warning message but reply “Yes”.
- Once windows have successfully updated the driver software, try playing the audio and check again.
If nothing works, then the only workaround would be to use USB headsets not speakers. This should work well for you.
You've been simply fabulous to work with, considering your technical expertise. It has been an absolute privilege to share this platform with you. 🙂 Trust me, I've done all I can to assist you, by keeping your best interest in mind.
I honestly hope the issue is resolved and the product works great and stays healthy for a long time to come. 🙂
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.
If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles. 🙂
You take care, stay healthy, keep smiling big and do have a blessed year ahead. 🙂

Good Day. Thank you for taking an interest in the HP community. I understand that you require assistance regarding the headset port not working correctly. I will be really glad to assist you here. 🙂 Fabulous description and superb diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂
First off, to assist you better, I would require more information regarding this:
- Did this happen after a recent windows or software update?
- Did you try with a different headset and check if the issue gets fixed?
For now please try with a different headset and check if the issue gets fixed. This headset could be faulty.
Then try these steps:
Right click on the “Volume icon” on the bottom right corner.
b) Select “Recording devices”.
c) Under the “Recording” tab right click on the white empty space and check the box that says, “Show disabled devices” and “Show disconnected devices”.
d) Right click on “Stereo Mix” and “Enable” this device.
e) Highlight “Stereo Mix”, click on “Properties” and go to the “Listen” tab.
f) Check the box "Listen to this device", also change the drop-down box below "Playback through this device" to be your second audio device.
g) To verify that you've done this correctly, go back to the sound dialog tab “Playback”, you should now see both of your audio devices showing the little green graphs moving.
If this does not fix it, please perform a system restore to an earlier time before the issue occurred from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03327545 Please select the option “Restore your computer when Windows starts normally”. Then follow the on-screen instructions and check again.
If it still does not work, please go to device manager and uninstall the audio drivers. Steps:
- Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand sound video and game controllers>then select the sound drivers and right-click on it and uninstall the audio drivers. Then check the box delete the software for this device.
- Then restart the computer and update the bios, chipset and audio drivers from this link: http://hp.com/drivers and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Then check if the situation has been corrected.
If nothing works you could Order USB headsets and check if the issue gets corrected as a workaround. This can be done from Amazon or eBay or from a local Best Buy or Staples store. This should do the trick for you. Please note that the Mic port cannot he used for the headset port.
Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, please. Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂
Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
Take care now and have a superb week ahead. 🙂

Hi @devesh1998,
I found a YouTube video that might help. Please check this link: http://hp.care/2tUwGSr out. It is a third party Youtube video Please watch the video and follow the instructions in it. Don't click on any ad, image, popup or link. This might help please keep me posted. Although it is for Windows 7 The steps are relevant even for Windows 10 or Windows 8.1.
I hope this fixes the issue. Please keep me posted. Also, let me know if your sound drivers are Realtek audio drivers. That might help.
Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Hi @devesh1998,
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community! I reviewed your post and I understand that the sound is played from both headphone and the speakers when headphones are connected.
Check the 'Disable front panel jack detection' option:
-
Double-click on the Realtek HD Audio manager system tray icon
-
Click on small folder icon
-
Check that the 'Disable front panel jack detection' tick box is unticked.
-
Now insert the jack plug of either a microphone or headphones into the corresponding front panel socket of your computer.
-
If you now see the message 'Information: A jack has been plugged in', then you do not need to change this setting as your system has an HDA compatible front panel.
-
If you do not see this message, then click on the small folder icon again and tick the 'Disable front panel jack detection' check box.
If any of the above options are unavailable, install the latest drivers for you audio adapter and then try again: Click here for the drivers
If you have followed the steps suggested and still having the issue. I would suggest you could try creating a New user account and check if that helps.
Let me know if those steps worked for you.
If they did, that’s awesome!
Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
That’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers!
Good Luck.
