I can definitely see this being static. Unfortunately, that kind of makes things worse on us. Thats not a simple fix like a driver issue. Its touchpad hardware.
But, i have definately noticed that mouse will seem to jump (only on certain occasions) when you hands are placed in certain spots around the touchpad or slightly under that laptop or on the edge of the laptop by the touchpad. It had me curious if my hand placement was causing this.
Of course id test it out thouroghly and it was never consistent, a very small percentage of time did hand placement seem to correlate with the cursor jumping.
and of course when it gets to the state where you've lost complete control of the cursor, hand placement doesnt seem to matter much either.
..nevertheless i can see this being a static problem. So... HP Experts, you have a widespread hardware issue with this model laptop.
What are you going to do?

I dont think it would have to do with the harddrive.. But who knows at this point. If it was connected to the hdd then it would be because the hdd is casuing some kind of static interference. OR this is a driver issue and there is a problem with the driver/process.
Has anyone had any more luck contacting hp support via chat?

I just bought the HP Envy m6 Notebook 2 days ago (9/12/14) and I'm having the same problems with my trackpad as described by the other users. Please advise how to fix, or whatever I need to know on how to resolve this issue. I would like to be able to use my new computer. Thank you.

You should take it back and get a different computer. I am on my second HP (huge mistake). At first, the second trackpad worked fine, but after a couple of months, it is doing the same thing, and it is so frustrating. I restart it several times a day just to finish my work.
I will never buy another HP unless they get this fixed and soon.

I would be raising hell against HP right now, but the laptop is being used by my brother while he is at college.
Otherwise i would be contacting them 24/7, having them ship me out a new laptop every week until they implement a solution.

My Envy TouchSmart Notebook track pad becomes very glitchy after about 20 minutes of use. Ive searched the settings and control panel but i cant find where i can disable it. This problem needs to be looked in to because it is very frustrating.

Bought mine yesterday and its driving me mad! Support person please help. I found 2 temporary solutions.
1. Go to control panel, mouse, control zone settings, reset devices... but after a few minutes the problem appears again.
2.Standby the system and wake, again for a few minutes its ok.
This tells me that the problem is not related to hardware but the driver itself. Can you confirm you are solving this issue? Or should I return this laptop

What forum are you talking about? can you link to it? I will give it a try and look into it.
Unfortunately, i think this is a hardware problem. I believe it is a static issue that me and others discussed in this thread a few pages back.
I think a solution might be to open up the laptop and use anti-static tape on the underside of the touchpad.and around the surrounding areas.
I dont have the laptop with me or else id try this.
