@oweeda, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Driver PNP Watchdog Error on HP Envy 17!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

The Driver PNP Watchdog error can be a frustrating issue impacting the boot process of your HP Envy 17 after a Windows update. Below are steps to troubleshoot and resolve this issue.

Step-by-Step Solution

Boot into Safe Mode

  • Restart your computer and press the F8 key repeatedly while it is booting.
  • Select Safe Mode from the boot menu.

Uninstall Recent Updates

  • Once in Safe Mode, go to Settings > Update & Security > View Update History.
  • Uninstall the recent updates which may have caused the Driver PNP Watchdog error.

Check Device Drivers

  • Open Device Manager by right-clicking on the Start Menu and selecting Device Manager.
  • Look for any devices with a yellow exclamation mark which indicates a problematic driver.
  • Right-click on the device and select Update Driver. You can also choose to Roll Back Driver if the update option isn't helpful.

Run System File Checker (SFC)

  • Open Command Prompt as an administrator by right-clicking on the Start Menu and selecting Command Prompt (Admin).
  • Type sfc /scannow and press Enter. This will check for any system file corruption and repair it.

Perform a System Restore

  • Restart your computer and press F8 to enter Advanced Boot Options.
  • Select Repair Your Computer and then Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > System Restore.
  • Choose a restore point before the update was installed.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

@oweeda, Thanks so much for the update—and I can sense how frustrating it must be to see your HP Envy suddenly hit a wall like this after a Windows update. Let’s work together to try and get things moving again.

Since Safe Mode and System Restore aren’t accessible, we’ll pivot to recovery methods that can bypass the standard boot.

Let’s try these steps:

1. Use HP Recovery via Boot Menu

Turn off the laptop completely.

Press the power button, then immediately and repeatedly tap the F11 key until the HP Recovery Environment opens.

Do you see the HP recovery screen or does it stay black/freeze?

2. Create a Bootable Windows 11 USB on Another PC
Since you mentioned trouble downloading, I’d suggest using Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool on another PC:

Plug in an empty 8GB+ USB stick

Run the tool and follow the steps to create bootable media

Plug that USB into the affected laptop

Turn it on and tap Esc > F9, then boot from the USB

Does the system respond to the USB boot at all?

3. Try Startup Repair (once on bootable USB or F11 menu)

Select Repair your computer

Then go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Repair

Could you please share:

Does the screen stay blank, or do you see the HP logo at all?

Are you hearing any beeps or feeling any fan activity?

Have you ever successfully created or used HP Cloud Recovery media before?

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

@oweeda, thanks for sticking with us—really appreciate your patience through all this!

I can imagine how stressful it is when your laptop refuses to budge after an update. 😓 You’ve come this far, and we're almost there.

Here’s the good news: HP does provide a dedicated tool to help you recover your system, and this official link has everything you need—including step-by-step instructions, download links, and how-tos for using HP Cloud Recovery:

Make sure to run the tool on a working Windows PC, and have a blank USB drive (at least 32GB). Once the USB is ready, just plug it into your affected laptop and boot from it using Esc > F9.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
