Hi,
I am having problems with my system a) not waking up when it should, and b) the wifi card sometimes is not recognized and I cannot connect to my home wifi.
I would like to update the 5 year old bios. Currently it is:
INSYDE F.1C, 9/92013
Processor:
AMD A8-4555M APU w/ Readon HD graphis 1.6 mhz 4 cores logical processors
Can I go to a third party for this? I tried on the hp site and windows 10 is not listed as a valid OS.
Thanks!

Thank you for responding,
It's great to have you back 😉
How did you install Windows 10?
BIOS Update is irrespective of the operating system. You could download the BIOS available on our HP Website: https://hp.care/2MxPP3f
Let me know how it goes,
Cheers 🙂

Welcome to HP Forums,
This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂
As I understand, your notebook does not wake up from sleep mode, Wi-Fi works intermittently and you wish to update BIOS,
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: https://hp.care/2aSlUnS
(Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).
When was the last time it worked fine?
Were there any hardware/software changes made?
While you respond to that, let's try these steps to resolve the issue:
For sleep mode issue, follow these steps from the link: https://hp.care/2A59l0D
Steps are mentioned below "The computer does not wake up from sleep or hibernate mode"
Step 1: Restart the computer
Step 2: Enable the keyboard to wake the computer
Step 3: Check for Windows updates
Step 4: Check for updates from HP
Step 5: Troubleshoot using the Windows Power troubleshooter
For Wi-Fi connectivity issue follow these steps from the link: https://hp.care/2JSP96X
Step 2: Update the wireless driver through Device Manager
Step 3: Use automatic troubleshooting
Step 4: Check and reset hardware
Step 5: Reinstall the wireless network adapter driver using Device Manager
Step 6: Update wireless network drivers
Step 7: Manually change network settings
Step 8: Perform a Microsoft System Restore
Step 9: Other things to try
Restore BIOS to default settings
Reset the computer
You could check for BIOS update on HP Support Assistant.
Note: HP does not recommend installing BIOS update from a third party website since it is not tested by HP and it may corrupt the motherboard and other components.
Keep me posted,
For I shall follow-up on this case to ensure the concern has been addressed,
And your device is up and running again,
Have a great day 🙂
Cheers 🙂

I did the keyboard wake up - nothing I press wakes it up (sometimes - intermittant problem) other times it wakes up and net card is on.
I have mentioned the wifi card in my other threads. When it goes out, the machine doesnt recognise a wifi card as being installed. After several reboots it comes back.

BIOS update worked fine, accepted as solution.
Network card still drops all the time. I have to pull the battery, drain the caps, and reboot--5 or 6 times then the light goes from orange to white 🙂
I have to take the bar exam in a month and I cant afford a new machine. Tough position. I can get the test done, but if this wifi card drops and I cant reconnect to upload the test, I am hosed.
First plan, try to get a new net card installed if I can afford it.
My backup plan: go straight to a best buy after the exam (different city than mine) and have them use a cat 5 cable to connect and load my test.

Thanks for responding,
Have you tried wireless troubleshooting steps mentioned in my previous post?
If not, I suggest you try those steps.
If the issue still persists, a good workaround is to procure a wifi USB dongle and plug it to one of the USB ports. Then connect to the router with it. It is extremely cost effective and economical. You could get it for a song from a local Best Buy or Staples location or order one online at Amazon or Ebay.
Or you could reinstall Windows using HP Recovery Media. To order Recovery Media, refer to this article: https://hp.care/2zOdwOO
Or contact our phone support for Recovery Media:
1) Click on this link - https://hp.care/2moMFSc
2) Click on "Continue as guest".
3) Enter the serial of your device.
4) Select the country from the drop-down.
5) Click on "Show Options".
Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
