I bought a used HP EliteBook 820 G1 12.5" Laptop: i7-4600U 2.1GHz - 8GB - 180GB (F3G37EP#ABA). It originally had windows 8 but was wiped clean. I've been using linux but want to go back to windows 8 (or any windows). When I tried to boot from a USB (windows 8 iso i downloaded from microsoft) I had all kinds of problems. Can I buy any windows 8 recovery USB for HP/Compaq off ebay to put windows on the computer? What's the easiest solution?

Hi:
You would have to order recovery media for your notebook by telephoning HP in your country.
If you live in the USA/Canada, you can call them at this number... 1-800-334-5144 .
I don't know what kind of issues you are having with the Microsoft download.
I give forum members this guide for how to clean install W8.1 by using the W8 product key in the notebook's BIOS.
For W8 Pro, you would use this key...XHQ8N-C3MCJ-RQXB6-WCHYG-C9WKB
