Hi @annieGen,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your operating system appears to have changed unexpectedly to Microsoft Edge (which is actually a web browser, not an operating system), you may be experiencing a configuration issue or a misunderstanding. Here’s how to check your Windows operating system and revert back to Windows 10 if needed:

Step 1: Check Your Windows Version

Open Settings:

  • Press Win + I to open the Settings menu.

Go to System:

  • Click on About at the bottom left.

Check Windows Version:

  • Look for the Windows specifications section to see what version of Windows you are currently using.

Step 2: Revert Back to Windows 10 (If Upgraded to Windows 11)

If you upgraded to Windows 11 and want to go back to Windows 10, you can do so if it's been less than 10 days since the upgrade:

Open Settings:

  • Press Win + I to open Settings.

Go to System:

  • Click on Recovery.

Go Back to Windows 10:

  • If available, you will see an option that says Go back. Click it and follow the prompts to revert to Windows 10.

Step 3: Clean Installation of Windows 10 (If Go Back Option is Unavailable)

If the "Go back" option is not available or it has been more than 10 days, you can perform a clean installation of Windows 10:

Backup Your Data:

  • Ensure all your important files and data are backed up to an external drive or cloud service.

Download Windows 10 Installation Media:

Create Installation Media:

  • Run the tool and choose Create installation media (USB flash drive or ISO file).

Install Windows 10:

  • Boot from the USB flash drive (or DVD) with Windows 10 installation media.
  • Follow the prompts to install Windows 10. When prompted, you can choose to delete existing partitions for a clean install.

Step 4: Install Drivers and Updates

After the installation, make sure to:

  • Install all necessary drivers for your hardware.
  • Run Windows Update to get the latest updates and security patches.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

 Good morning.

Thank you Rachel. I'm a technophobe so didn't understand what had happened to my laptop. I seem to have almost repaired it.

Thanks again
