Hi @ChrisColley,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for reaching out, and congrats on your new HP laptop! If you're stuck at the Windows login screen asking for a PIN you never set, Sorry to hear that this occurred during initial setup. Here's how to fix it:

Option 1: Use Your Microsoft Account Password Instead of a PIN

  1. On the login screen, look for “Sign-in options” below the PIN entry box.
  2. Click it and choose the key icon to switch to password login.
  3. Enter your Microsoft account password (the one you used during setup).

Option 2: Restart Setup in Safe Mode (If No Sign-in Options Appear)

If you don’t see any sign-in options:

  1. Force a restart:
    • Hold the power button for 10 seconds to shut down.
    • Turn it back on and immediately press F11 repeatedly to enter HP Recovery or Windows Recovery Environment.

  2. Choose:
    • Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart
    • Then press 4 to boot into Safe Mode.

  3. Once in Safe Mode, you may be able to:
    • Create a new user account.
    • Or reset the PIN via Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.

Option 3: Reset the PC (If Nothing Else Works)

If you're still stuck:

  1. Boot into recovery (F11 at startup).
  2. Choose Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.
  3. Select Remove everything or Keep my files (if available).

⚠️ This will reinstall Windows and remove any apps or settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
