One day while i was playing my laptop shut itself off because of low power so when i charged it there was a bcd error saying that there are no valid files for a system. After that i tried to repair windows by booting into an usb and there was a password that i had to put in order to access the boot menu. I don't know what the password is so can someone please help me it's been 4 months and i still can't do anything.

Hi  @n_sawadogo

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I can imagine how  it must be to be locked out of your laptop for months, Let’s work through this together and see if we can get you back up and running.

Could you kindly share the exact HP laptop model you’re using?

A few quick clarifications to help narrow things down:

  • Did you ever set a BIOS or boot password yourself, or is this the first time you’re seeing it?
  • Has the laptop ever been serviced or repaired before this issue occurred?
  • Do you still have access to your Windows product key or recovery media?

Kindly try the below and confirm :

  1. Check for Caps Lock/Num Lock – Sometimes the BIOS password prompt is sensitive to these keys being on.

Please note  : HP does not set factory default BIOS locks, users can manually set BIOS/UEFI Administrator passwords for security. Bypassing these without the password is difficult.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
