Problem: printer is printing brochure that a marketing company made for me in a blue tone and there is nothing I've been able to do about it. Here is what I've done to troubleshoot:

Hardware:

1. Printer is mfp4730.
2. Toner is not genuine HP - (please dont say its the toner)
3. Printer diagnostics page prints 4.0 - no missalignment and color looks great
4. Demo page prints a beautifull loaf of bread
5. Pantone (20 pages) RGB and Pantone CYMK (20 pages) look great as well.

Software:
1. Tride printing using Adobe PDF. (the original was a pdf - then the sent the jpg as I told them it was printing blue)
2. Tried printing jpg using Microsoft default image program - output was heavy blueish tinge
3. Tried printing jpg using Adobe Photoshop - output same blueish tinge
....a. downloaded ICC profile from HP for the 4730 and using adobe photoshop:
........i. Edit->Convert to Profile and choosing the 4730 profile I downloaded WALA! The conversion looks like what is printing out - though it looks more purple than blue.
....b. Using adobe-photoshop
........i. Edit->Convert to Profile and choosing custom CYMK and maximum black (so that the greys are JUST K and no C M Y ) QualityFasteners-Flyer-small.jpgit looks great - but prints blue

Driver/Software
1. I've tried "adobe photoshop manage color"
2. I've tried "printer manage color"

I uploaded the picture - Its a grey and black flyer with one little blue stamp on it.

I'm sure this is an easy fix because I just printed out a cream.sourceforge.net/ColorCard.pdf document and other than the purple showing up like a darker blue - it looks good....

Because the internet is a perfect wayback machine - I'm posting my own solution as I poked and proded extensively (expended 15% of a blue toner cartridge) and found that it was "easy".

The solution to print outs turning a blue -ish tone on the mfp4730 is to utilize the PostScript version of the printer driver - you can install both PCL6 and PS side by side.

1. Under the (any) print dialog you can click on "Properties"

2. Under color TAB choose Manual in the color options text area

..... click the "Settings..." button

..... SOLUTION -> Under Photographs ... Neutral Grays - choose "BLACK ONLY" instead of 4-color

..... click OK

3. Under color thems (still in the properties dialog) text area  - you can keep "Default (sRGB)"

4. Print and enjoy

After all this the flyer prints correctly and the "test pdf" document now has purples and the colors are much sharper.  Why did HP do that?
