I would like to give feedback to whoever is in charge of HP's product design.
My HP Envy 15 TS also have a broken hinge problem. It is always the left hinge. The screen cables often got stuck in the broken hinge and were later damaged. The LCD was affected. I went to the HP service center, they replaced the entire casing, LCD, and stuffs. It was out of warranty, and the repair costs 60-70% of the laptop's original price. However, it didn't take long before the hinge broke again. It is always the same problem: the left hinge.
The problem is that the left hinge is screwed against a small protrusion of the fan (see the picture). The screw itself is not long enough to let the bottom casing properly share the load, so it is that small part of the fan that ends up supporting the entire left hinge. The hinge itself has a crazy amount of tension. You can barely open the hinge on its own with your bare hands. Therefore, the small part of the fan that supports the hinge often break. In my case, it happens twice.
Once the left hinge loses support, every time you open and close the laptop, the hinge pushes against the casing breaking everything else. Sometimes, the screen cables which is housed by the hinge cover got stuck and damaged.
It is a design flaw. There is no way that small plastic part of the fan can hold against the hinge tension.
I hope HP takes this into consideration for its future product design.
