my laptop has an error message before it can boot it displays product serial no product sku.

Hi JHawi,

 

This error probably means that the system board of the notebook has been replaced and was not configured to contain the serial number or product number. The tool needed to resolve this is only accessible by an HP or HP-certified tech.

If you have had the device for a while and haven't done any service, then the issue may be resolved by updating the BIOS. You can find it by searching the model name and the word "drivers" on Google; the BIOS system firmware should be at the top of the page. Or you can use the HP support assistant to check for updates (it may not be able to find them if it cannot locate your serial number).
