Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

i have been trying to troubleshoot the problem with my laptop. i started getting a thermal shutdown with code 90d. when my computer was updateing windows ( i think) my backup drive d was almost full, and now when i tried  to  do a factory reset it is grayed out . i got as far as doing a component  check on everything and my battery faild the test. i  did a fast test on the system and passed, but now my computer shuts down with any startup i have tried. battery in , out, it will say on for a while wit the battery out, and on top of a fan,  but will not do any functions or let me hook up the external drive i have a back up on. is there anything i can do before i have to spend more than i paid for the computer to work? i also dont know how to find out what windows  the factory installed on it. please help, i am thankful for any ideas at this point. i did see an empty partition on the drive thinking i could open it to do the windows update and solve all my problems, but that ship has sailed now. i think?

Good dAy. Thank you for visiting the HP community again. I have read the post and will be delighted to assist you. brilliant troubleshooting skills and great patience have been displayed by you. Kudos to you for that.

  • Did this happen after a power outage or surge?

The 90d thermal error code and the battery failure clearly indicates hardware issues with the computer. Don't use the computer for now. It needs to be serviced. I am being honest about it here by keeping your best interest in mind without beating around the bush.
