after one of the updates last year, I had no user account of administrator type.

when looking at it in the control panel it still has "adninistrator" under the name, but when one looks through the control panel at "change account type"  it is a usual user account.

I did not change this.

it showed and shows through having to troubleshoot the internet connection each time after starting the laptop and then run the repairs to be done with administrator access.

I assume that this also makes driver updates fail. An assumption on my side.

I dont have any other administrator account. This was the only account I had and should not have happened.

How can I change my account to a administrator account again?

Thank you for your help!

Hello @mlKauai

Welcome to the HP Support forum.

Unfortunately, there is no way to change an account type from a limited/user type of account. You need another admin account to do it. In Windows XP there used to a hidden Administrator account built-in and enabled by default but there is no such a thing in newer Windows versions.

You should reinstall Windows from scratch (perform HP recovery) to fix the issue. This is the official procedure.

There might be some other unofficial options available but they are not official, not recommended and may not help.

If your PC originally came with Windows preinstalled by HP (a.k.a. OEM Windows), here is the process you need to follow in order to reset the PC to factory default condition (HP Recovery) >> http://hp.dezide.com/ts/start.jsp?guide=HPSystemRecovery.net&as=true&section=ccweb&SFS=tdoc&language...

If your PC did not come with Windows preinstalled and you installed it later, you will need to use your original Windows 7 DVD to reinstall Windows.

After fresh Windows 7 reinstallation, if it already has SP1 built in, you can directly download the so called convenience rollup update (unofficially known as SP2 for Win 7) for faster updates deployment > https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki/windows_7-update/how-to-update-windows-7-all-at-onc...

Hope this helps.
