Maybe this instruction will help:

Hi everyone. I am a multi brand laptop store owner. The simple solution for this error is you only have to press Y on the screen to clear the tpm after that press F1 or fn+F1 key to proceed with that setting. after this restart your laptop and there you go. Your problem is solved.

Try to press z if you have a german keyboard.

Then you can set up your pin again with your password for Microsoft.

Thank you very much. Your solution worked for me. First, I pressed the Y button and then, while holding Fn, I pressed the F1 button and the system restarted. Now I don't get error anymore and TPM option is back in bios.

Thank you for your effort.

First, it didn't even pass 1 year since I bought my laptop, it is covered by factory warranty, and still several problems happened that I can't explain.

I am afraid this does not solve the main problem that I have. As I said, no option in BIOS fixed my problem - I had to manually clear TPM and reset my PIN to what it was in order to start windows. So it was clearly a faulty BIOS update. Why does HP not test their software to make sure it works properly in the first place?

Besides that, the laptop restarted on its own before installing the update - that is not normal behavior as it will first give me a notification if it is working correctly.

So in the end, what causes problems that are essential to normal system function of the laptop?

How did you reset the PIN?

HP Recommended

Normally, resetting the PIN works via the “Forgotten PIN” function.

I was asked to reset my PIN when I booted to Windows login screen, if you haven't noticed in my original post. It said the following:

"Something happened and your PIN isn't available. Click to set up your PIN again". Below that, I had 2 options:

-Set up my PIN,

-Sign in options.

I simply clicked the first option, to set up my PIN again.

Oldie1950, I am not certain what you mean exactly by "TPM login options". I was talking about logging in Windows.

I only got the message about the issue with TPM data, like I and a lot of other people said. TPM is clearly used to store PIN, as I understand at least. When I checked settings, TPM was "available" and its status was "ready", so I had no problems with that after I cleared the TPM. The faulty BIOS update caused the whole problem from the beginning.

What I don't know is how my laptop installed the update without my prior knowledge, that's what I am talking about. I am supposed to get a notification.

I don't know more about the Problem. Sorry.

I have called the telephone-support and get the hint of the employee.

There is no need to apologize. I appreciate that you wanted to help, I am grateful for that.
