Hello!

I want to install an ssd on my laptop for windows installation on it. When i bought my laptop i created a recovery drive through system recovery tool. Now, my question is:

1. Is recovery usb drive that i created and bootable usb drive the same thing.

2. Can i use my recovery USB drive for windows installation on ssd.

3. What is the step by step process of windows installation on my ssd with keeping all my hard drive data undeleted or in case if i have to keep a backup on different hard drive that will also be OK.

@raj_kamal If the SSD wasn't shipped with the device, and is an upgrade, I must let you know that HP does not recommend upgrades or hardware changes as the device is equipped with parts that perform at its optimal performance by design, that said, the upgradeable parts listed by HP articles are purely for your ease, as the decision to upgrade will be at your own discretion.

That out of the way, here's everything you need to know:

  1. Recovery Media/USB drive is the same as bootable USB, however, the recovery USB would contain software/drivers shipped at factory, while the latter would not.
  2. Yes, you can, if the SSD is supported by HP, if not, it may or may not work: click here to check parts tested and approved by HP.
  3. Since we don't recommend or support upgrades as such, we don't have steps by step instructions on the same.
