Product: Pavilion 6530
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just replaced the hard drive with a SS drive.  Received my system recovery USB drive from HP.  I can get to the startup menu using the esc key.  The startup menu appears but I cannot get the computer to respond to any of the function keys.  I cannot change the boot sequence to access the USB drive.  at my wits end!  Thanks

The HP Recovery Media expects to see a drive in the PC much like the original one -- and if you replace a larger HDD with a much smaller SSD, the recovery probably will NOT work -- as the first step is to attempt to recreate the original partitions which will likely fail.  You can't rely on using Recovery Media to migrate the HP OEM OS to an SDD from an HDD.

 

Is the HDD still working and you only wanted an SSD to replace it?

i'm using the same size hard drive.....computer will not respond to any of the function keys in the startup menu.
