No matter what I use Trackpad or even several different usb mice. The curser flips around the screen and causes chaos. Here is what I have tried so far.
Ran full scans with: Defender, Malwarebytes, Superantispiware.
Tried to use applications with a variety of pointing devices symtoms remain the same.
ran touchpad troubleshooter
Validated OS is latest 1709 16299.125 Win10 Home
Same for Office 365
Updated to latest Synaptic touchpad driver
Updated UEFI and ran diagnostic
"Reset OS" saving personal data only
Reset touchpad controls
recalibrated the Touch Screen
None of the above had any impact. The cursor hass a mind of its own in starting programs when we hover over icons. grabbing things moving things etc. Suggetsions would be appreciated as the PC is only 6 months out of warrentee and never been dropped or in hard use.

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.
I understand that you have an HP Envy M6 series laptop. I read that the touchpad movement is not accurate. The curser flips around the screen and causes chaos. The issue persists with a USB mouse too. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.
I suggest you to perform a BIOS update on your laptop. The BIOS update for your laptop can be searched and downloaded via this link: www.hp.com/drivers
NOTE: Please ignore if the BIOS is already updated by you. Secondly, ensure that the charger is connected to the laptop during the BIOS update.
However, if the touchpad pointer continues to malfunction even after updating the BIOS then the evidence points towards a hardware failure. In such a case, I suggest you to contact our HP phone support team to explore the hardware service for your laptop.
Hope this works out. Feel free to keep me posted for any questions. Good luck! 🙂

thank you for the response.
The BIOS was already updated.
I decided to just disable the touchpad and use a mouse.
SInce in Win10 you can not easily disable hardware.
I looked up the M6 maintenence manual and poped the lid.
Removed the single ribbon cable and all is well.
Returning the unit for repair was to expensive
and replacing the touchpad requires removing the mother board and other bits
which increases the possibility i will mess something else up. So sadly a 16 month old laptop has no touchpad.
Since this is the 12th HP pc/laptop my family of 6 has bought over the last 15 years (no joke). I admit to being disappointed that this midlevel unit has failed. Even the 2 streams touchpads lasted years longer
