I have an old Pavillion DV6-1360US notebook with Insyde bios rev.14. I recently tried to clone the hard drive to SSD, but it has a message that there is a missing piece of hardware to boot with the SSD installed. I have a Pressario CQ62 that has the Insyde bios rev.28, that had no problem with switching over to SSD. They are very similar laptops,m both running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. I haven't been able to do any kind of bios update with HP Support assistant. Any info would be helpful.. Thanks.

The last BIOS update HP released for your notebook was F.46.
Below are the info and exe file links to BIOS version F.46:

Hello, Thanks for the info. I guess I should have mentioned that I have downloaded that file and tried to run it under Windows 7. The Insyde BIOS updater program comes up, but doesn't display the old rev or the new rev it is being updated to. Do I need to run this in a command prompt or enable/disable anything else? I've tried to disable my virus protection, but it didn't seem to make a difference. Thanks in advance!

Hi again,
Also if i hit F2 when booting I get an Advanced System Diagnostics menu, which has bios management button as a choice. If I click on it, it shows BIOS rev F.14, and allows update or rollback. If I click update, it says no update available. Would this have anything to do with the problem? Thanks again!

You're very welcome.
Are you sure you have a dv6-1360us?
It makes no sense that you posted the system is running version F.28 but the notebook is indicating it has version F.14.
What is the product number of the PC that shows up in the BIOS' system information window?
You should be able to just run the file, follow the on-screen instructions and it should automatically install.
The file can only be run in Windows.
There is no other way to install the BIOS updates on those old notebooks.
It may not indicate the old version or show the new version until the update has been complete.
Here is the link to the BIOS download page for your notebook:
HP Pavilion dv6-1360us Entertainment Notebook PC Software and Driver Details
If you click to expand the Revision History section on the above page, it has the download links to the available older BIOS versions.
The bottom line is if the file does not update the BIOS, I wouldn't know why or what to do about it, so you can try any of the older versions if that happens and see if one of those works.

Hi,
You're right, it's a DV6-3160US. It is posting rev.14 though. The rev.28 I referred to was another laptop that I am not having the same issue with, even though it is a very similar device. The product ID is XD485EA#UUW. AMD Phenom III N950 Quad core, 2100MHz. Serial Number CNF042BN26. I tried entering the Serial number in the HP Support Assistant, and it came back with nothing. Sorry about the Model number mix up

Hi:
The last BIOS update HP released for your notebook was F.29.
Below are the info and exe file links to BIOS v.F.29:

Hi,
It is flashing as I type! I can't believe I couldn't find it with the HP Support tool. But it helps to have the right serial and model number! Thanks again! It appears to have rebooted and is loading windows okay. Pressing F2 shows it as F.29 now! Now all I have to do is see if it will run the SSD or not.

Hi,
Well the BIOS update went fine. Thanks. However, the laptop won't boot from the cloned drive. It states a previous hardware change might be the cause. Status Oxc000000f. Boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible. Before I did the BIOS upgrade it said the same, and I went through the whole Repair your computer routine. Didn't make a difference. Lost at this point. Any more good info would be greatly appreciated.
TIA.
