Had this notebook from new and has been very good. recently screen went blank and tests showed faulty hard drive. On fitting a replacement (not hp ) i now cannot reload windows even with the code as microsoft say as it was installed at manufacturers it is there responsibility.. I believe support can send me a link to recover to original but cannot see how to request this.i do have windows code attached to note book if required. Any help would be appreciated

Hi:
W7 recovery media was never free for download from HP.
You had to pay for W7 recovery media, and unfortunately, HP quit selling recovery media for that model series years ago.
What you can try is this...
See if HP's ePartner at the link below sells recovery kits for your model. You will need to enter the product number of the PC in the search window.
https://www.best2serve.com/en-gb/hp-recovery-media/computers
If not, see if this works...I have posted the link to the Microsoft W7 Home Premium 64 bit ISO file download.
The link will be good for 24 hours of this posting date.
Use the Microsoft utility that I zipped up and attached below that you will need to transfer the ISO file to a DVD or USB flash drive so that it is bootable.
After W7 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.

Since the ISO file is a retail file and your product key is an OEM key, you may have to use the automated Microsoft phone activation system to activate the installation.

You're very welcome.
You have to download and save the ISO file to another Windows PC.
You have to download and run the utility that I zipped up and run that from a working Windows PC so that it transfers the ISO file to a flash drive and makes it bootable.
Having both items by themselves on a USB flash drive won't work.

Hello Paul,
Not sure how to do that. I've opened the windows tool and all it allows is repair. Once clicked it just goes to finish. There appears no way of creating a bootable device from this tool. Now I suppose the other link has expired.
Thanks for your patience

Hi, Dan:
If the Microsoft tool isn't working for you, use the free Rufus utility that will do the same thing.

You're very welcome.
I have regenerated a new link for you...good for 24 hours from this reply date.
I assumed that you would have downloaded the file beforehand.

As you can see i am a real novice and feeling my way through this process. in the past i have used recovery discs but that is not an option now. i had downloaded the windows link but it wouldnt go onto the usb so compressed it and had all sorts of problems so decided to delete and start again.. i now have rufus but when it searches for ios files its not finding the download.i dont understand whether the the link you sent downloads an ios file or do i need to change something.
again thank you for your amazing patience

Hi, Dan:
It downloads an ISO file.
It appears to be over 5 GB in size so you would need to have an 8 GB flash drive to make the bootable USB drive.
If you have a DVD drive that can burn dual layer DVD's, and a dual layer DVD-R disk, you can make a bootable DVD using the free DVD burner XP program.
Under the More Download options link, install the Default installer (Without installCore) version.
Then open the program and select the Burn ISO file option and select the slowest burn speed you can.
Alternatively, you can download an older version of the W7 ISO file at the link below, which will fit on a standard DVD-R disk.
Scroll to the bottom of the page and select the 64 bit download.
We will figure this out...
