My Omen l25 blocked an Omen gaming hub download out of nowhere, i put it in quarantine because i got really scared after reschearching what it was. It seems to be harmless jut i would still like an opinion from a good experience computer "nerd".

Thank you.

Hi @NoobSaibot55,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It's not uncommon for antivirus or security software to occasionally flag legitimate programs or files as potentially harmful. The Omen Gaming Hub is a legitimate software provided by HP for managing Omen gaming devices and related settings. If your antivirus (in this case, Omen L25) flagged it, it might be a false positive.

Here are a few steps you can take.

  1. Check the Quarantine Details:

    • Look into the quarantine details or logs of your antivirus software. There should be information about why it was flagged. This might give you more insight into whether it's a false positive.
  2. Submit to Antivirus Vendor:

    • Many antivirus programs allow you to submit flagged files for analysis. Check if your antivirus has an option to submit files for analysis. If it's a false positive, the antivirus vendor can update their definition databases.
  3. Verify the Source:

    • Make sure you downloaded the Omen Gaming Hub from the official HP website or a reputable source. If you obtained it from a third-party site, it's possible that it was bundled with other software that triggered the antivirus alert.
  4. Update Antivirus Definitions:

    • Ensure that your antivirus software is up-to-date. Antivirus programs regularly release updates to their virus definition databases, which helps in identifying new threats and reducing false positives.
  5. Check Online Reputation:

    • Search online for reviews or information about the specific version of the Omen Gaming Hub you downloaded. If it's a legitimate and widely used program, you should find positive information about it.
  6. Restore from Quarantine:

    • If you're confident it's a false positive, you can usually restore the file from quarantine. Most antivirus programs have an option to do this.

Remember, it's always essential to exercise caution and verify the source of any software you download

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
