HP Pavilion Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When I booted up this morning, I got this error --

AccelerometerST.exe application error (0xc000007b) - was unable to start correctly. Click OK to close application.

I see all the other posts about this error, but they were all from people who upgraded from an older Windows version.  This is a new machine that came with Windows 10 installed.  I've been using it for a couple of months, and this is the first time I got this error.  I made two system changes yesterday.  I installed Intuit's Quicken 2016 software (the US version), and as a requirement of that program, I had to change the  non-unicode language to US English.

Other than that, everything is the same.

Please help!

Hi,

I'm suprised you received the 'over-write' option as the version of HP 3D DriveGuard in my link is a slightly older version and doesn't usually ship with Windows 10 - cancel the installation file, restart the notebook, then try the version on the link below.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp71501-72000/sp71811.exe

If you get the same error, post back with the full Model No. and Product No. of your notebook - you can usually get this by holding down the fn key and pressing esc, otherwise see Here for a guide on locating this information.

Hi,

Even though your notebook shipped with Windows 10, the following should still apply.

Open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry for HP 3D DriveGuard and select Uninstall - you may well get an error message at some stage, but just continue.

When this has completed, restart the notebook.

When windows has reloaded, download and install the version of HP 3D DriveGuard on the following link.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp67001-67500/sp67280.exe

Hi David

OK, here's what happened.  I uninstalled HP 3D Driveguard.  I did get an error (1722), but I continued and it seemed to work.  It was removed from the list of installed programs.

I rebooted.  No errors.  Then I downloaded from the link you provided.

When I attempted to run the file, I got these errors:

It wanted to install in the directory  swsetup\sp67280.  I said OK.

Since apparently, it was not removed as a part of the uninstall process, I got prompt "do you wish to overwrite?".

I said yes.

Then, I got this message. "HPService.exe  The process cannot access this file because it is being used by another process.

Error executing the specified program.

Unable to execute specified/specific command line."

Are there other programs/processes that use the HPService.exe file?  Should I end the process and delete the directory and it's contents and try the install again?

HELP!

Quick question before I try this new download.  Should I delete the swsetup directory or the sp6780 subdirectory?

I tried to "end task" for HPService, and try the reinstall again, but then I got a new error... something about accelerometer.sys being in use (I think).

I searched.  There are three versions of the file HPService.exe on my computer.  Two, dated today, are in the System32 directory (or a subdirectory of it) and the third is in swsetup\sp68280.

???

Hey David!  That last version worked fine.  I checked the HP Software & Driver site for my model Notebook.  It was the same version you provided here.  I rebooted, no errors, and checked to see if the Accelerometer was loaded and it was.

So, I have one last question.  I still have that directory with the old files in it:  swsetup\sp67280

Can I/should I delete it?  I mean the subdirectory \sp67280

Would appreciate your advice on this.

Thanks so much for your help!

Patti

Hi Patti,

You're welcome and good to hear it's Ok :generic:

Yes, you can delete sp67280 from the swsetup folder - it's just the location that the installer for the older version of DriveGuard 'unpacks' to.

All the best,

Thanks! :generic:

And thanks again for walking me through that fix.  Right after I finished that, HP gave me 5 new updates.  I held my breath when I rebooted, but it all seems OK.
