Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After installing the latest BIOS (F.30), I can no longer activate the keyboard backlight. All drivers are available and up-to-date in the device manager (Windows).
Before the update, the backlight worked perfectly.

Unfortunately, the methods suggested here in the forum and on the Internet did not lead to success.
- New installation of Windows 10 Pro
- Reinstalling the BIOS
- New installation of individual/all drivers
The problem persisted.

The Problem looks similar to "Backlit keyboard not working" posted by X71 on 08-27-2022 04:20 AM.

System: HP Pavilion 14-ce0002ng
Hardware: Intel Core I7-8550U + NVIDIA Geoforce MX150, 8GB RAM

Board: HP 84BA with F.30

OS: MS Windows Pro 22H2

I see that you are facing an issue with your Laptop keyboard.

 

Kindly refer to the steps on this link to troubleshoot and let me know if that resolves the issue.

 

Also, Update the BIOS for your PC by clicking on the link.

 

Make sure you keep only the charger plugged in while updating the BIOS for your PC.

Click on the + sign next to BIOS and then download the file.

Open the file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

thanks for the answer, but ... the problem still exist.

The keyboard has a F5 key with the additional backlight symbol on it. I've try the F5 key with and also without the FN-Key.
The check have been make with both BIOS options, Select Enable, reboot and test FN-F5 and also the F5 without FN. Then select Disable, reboot and test the FN-F5 and F5 again. No change, the backlight will be missed.

Sorry, the BIOS F.30, which will be used by the laptop, haven't an advanced Tab.

And another test case: If I use FN-F5 in a browser window the browser starts a page refresh. If I press the F5 key without the FN key no refresh will be done. The key isn't arrived as F5 by the browser. The F5 will be interpreted as extended key same as the other multimedia keays sound on/off, louder and so on.


The Firmware hast he version F300000 from the 2. Aug. 2023. The firmware driver has the version 15.29.0.0. It should be the current release, shouldn't it?


The keyboard driver will be the PS/2 driver (10.0.19041.1) from Microsoft created at 21. Jun. 2006

Which driver will be used for the backlight itself?

 

Also another BIOS update to the latest BIOS given by HP for the Pavilion 14-ce0002ng don't change the issue.

But after installation of the BIOS at the first boot the BIOS shown the message "protocol function missed".

 

Maybe that will be a hint, maybe.

I see that there is an issue with the laptop hardware and may need repair.

Only one question left: Where I can get the previos (old) BIOS for the laptop.

I like to make a fallback to the old BIOS which works fine for me.

PS: The laptop is already out of warranty. A hardware check has already been carried out and was positive.

I understand you would like to know how to return to the previous version of BIOS on your PC.

 

Try restoring the BIOS to default on your PC and check if it helps.

 

1.    Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
2.    Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
3.    On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
4.    Press F10 to Save and Exit.
5.    Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes.
6.    Follow the prompts to restart your computer.
 

 

To perform a power reset on a laptop with a removable battery, use the following steps:
Turn off the computer.
Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station.
Disconnect all external connected peripheral devices such as USB storage devices, external displays, and printers.
Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.
Remove the battery from the battery compartment.
With the battery and power cord unplugged, press and hold the Power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual electrical charge from the capacitors.
Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the laptop, but do not connect any of the peripheral devices.
Press the Power button to turn on the computer.
If a startup menu opens, use the arrow keys to select Start Windows Normally, and then press the Enter key.
After Windows opens, reconnect each peripheral device that was disconnected, one device at a time, until all devices are reconnected.
Your laptop has been reset. After a power reset, it is a good idea to run Windows Update and HP Support Assistant to update all device drivers. See Updating Drivers and Software with Windows Update (Windows 10,  and Using HP Support Assistant (Windows 10, 8, 7) for more information.

 

After the reset try the steps recommended below.

 

Turn off the notebook.
Plug the notebook into a power source using the power adapter.
With the notebook off, press and hold the Windows logo key and the B key at the same time.
   NOTE:
On some notebook models, it might be necessary to press and hold the Windows logo key and the V key.
While pressing those keys, press and hold the Power button on the computer for 2 to 3 seconds, and then release the Power button but continue to hold the Windows logo key  and the B or V key until the HP BIOS update screen displays or you hear a beeping sound (usually 8 beeps).
The HP BIOS Update screen displays and the BIOS update begins automatically. This might take several minutes, and you might hear additional beeping sounds.
If the HP BIOS Update screen does not display, repeat the previous steps. If the issue persists after repeating the steps, skip to the next step to Download a replacement BIOS file.
If the Power light turns off, the notebook has turned off because the Power button was held too long. Repeat the previous steps, making sure to hold the Power button for 2 to 3 seconds only.
If your notebook starts Windows, update the BIOS to the latest version using the standard BIOS update procedure. For more information about updating your notebook BIOS, go to Updating the BIOS (Notebooks).
Click Continue Startup to prompt the notebook to restart immediately, or allow the notebook to restart automatically when the timer reaches zero.
After the notebook restarts, press Enter to continue.
   NOTE:
If the notebook repeatedly displays a message that the BIOS has been recovered, go to HP BIOS Application Selected is Corrupt or Missing for troubleshooting steps.
After Windows starts, if a message displays stating that the notebook was improperly shut down or that a boot problem was detected, follow the on-screen instructions.
You can now to enter the BIOS menu or start the Windows operating system.

thanks for the Hints.

The most points have been checked before I ask for help.

 

Also I've checked the Motherboard and the connection from it to the backlight.

(to remove the battery I must open the cover)

Everythinks looks OK, no cut in the motherboard or in the connection.

 

The reset, the CMOS clear and also the BIOS Recovery don't don't change anything.

Because the BIOS recovery recovers the version F.30 to - the same version F.30.

Maybe it can only go one step back and the update have been maked multiple times. 

 

That's the point why I ask for a download location where I can download a older one.

An archiv ftp server with the previous releases for my laptop (currently only f.30 will be shown).

 

F.31 for the 14-ce0xxx series don't work. The installation will be blocked with the message "your drive isn't supported'
