HP Pavilion x360 - 15-bk193ms
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

My laptop worked seamlessly lastnight...

Opened it today to find the internet symbol missing from lower right taskbar, audio has a red circle with an x and won't enable.

The windows start button is not clickable, and the search bar wont allow me to type anything into it.

I have tried a few fixes including SFC/scannow as admin , which i get an error message -windows resource protection could not start the repair service.

I have reset my laptop multiple times

Reset the windows explorer process in task manager

a few other things as well , I am now losing track, hopefully someone has some insight, otherwise i will reinstall windows... or throw this laptop away, who has time to deal with all these constant windows issues.

Hi @Lwatters

Thank you for being a part of HP Forums,
It’ll be an honor to guide you through the steps needed to identify your concern and address your query.

Since this issue started on Sunday, I would request you to perform a system restore and check if this helps you fix this issue. Looks like your windows is corrupted.

Step : System Restore

System Restore is a software program available in all versions of Windows 10 and Windows 8. System Restore automatically creates restore points, a memory of the system files and settings on the computer at a particular point in time. You can also create a restore point yourself. Then, when you use System Restore to restore your computer to a point in time before an issue began, System Restore returns your computer to the files and settings from the restore point. Your personal files and documents are not affected.

  • Turn off the computer and wait at least 5 seconds with the computer in a full off state.

  • Turn on the computer and repeatedly press the F11 key, about once every second, until you see the Windows loading screen.

  • If a language selection screen opens, select the language you want to use to continue.

  • On the Choose your keyboard layout screen, select the keyboard layout that matches your keyboard type.

  • On the Choose an option screen, click Troubleshoot.

  • On the Troubleshoot screen, click Advanced Options.

  • On the Advanced options screen, click System Restore.

  • Click Windows 10 as the target operating system.

  • The System Restore window opens.

  • Click Next.

  • Click the Restore Point that you want to use (Make sure you select a date when your computer was working), and then click Next.

The Confirm Restore Point window opens.

  • Click Finish to restore your computer to a previous point.

  • Do not interrupt System Restore when it starts. Doing so can corrupt your hard drive and create more problems. Click Yes in the warning that appears. Once the restore is complete, the unit will restart.

Step 2: System Recovery

If the previous step does not work, you will have to re-install windows 10 on your computer.

Here is a document which will give you all the information about performing a recovery.
